I fully expect her to outlive her mother... but those state affairs obviously tire her beyond the bearable, and by golly, she's queen of England, not Geriatristan... Time for her to pass the burden on... or is it that the true token of royalty is not a crown but a Ring?

Having read a number of royal biographies since my teens and having recently finished "The King's Speech" (though I did read quite a bit between the often overly glorifying lines, must admit) I tend to agree with this. Being born into a position you simply cannot escape is enough to drive an independent character stark raving mad out of sheer frustration and a more malleable one into milder neuroses (plural on purpose).

I feel sorry for people born into that position. The instant wealth and prestige must damage their aspirations and having so much unearned adulation must make a sense of self-entitlement other lowlier types can only imagine of in their dreams? Unlike a peasant born in the gutters of the third world, who can but is unlikely to get anywhere in life, these wealth inheriting types are our natural leaders having attained their status through conquest and slavery and unimaginable exploitation in generations gone by when the whip was legal tender. Wow, know your masters? They are laughing at you has they wave...

I think he's a total prick that'd rather do his own thing than be slave of protocol, he's seeing his mother bear the burden, maybe he'll think he has more interesting things to do and pass the hot potato on.
