The European Space Agency has given the go-ahead for the JUICE mission - The JUpiter ICy moons Explorer. A billion Euros of scienctific goodness. It'll do fly-bys of Europa and Callisto and then go into orbit around Ganymede. It's not going to bloody get there until 2030. I'll be over 60 by then. Harrumph.

None of this will be discovered in time for me to retire in space. Maybe I can do a Sleeper.

Apart from our Moon, has any probe ever gone into orbit around a moon? Not sure one has.

I'm not sure about orbit. But one LANDED on a moon, so it may have gone into orbit first. The Cassini-Huygens mission landed Huygens on Titan, the biggest of Saturn's moons, and sent back pictures, if I remember rightly.Clinton Huxley wrote:Apart from our Moon, has any probe ever gone into orbit around a moon? It was weird stuff, with methane rain and snow, or something similar.
The Cassini part kept on orbiting Saturn, sending back data.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

Yeah, remember that landing, plans for a boat to land on Titan now (how cool is that?)mistermack wrote:I'm not sure about orbit. But one LANDED on a moon, so it may have gone into orbit first.
