Still counting three as you said "sniping distance". Up close and personal, that's a zero.MrJonno wrote:Nah a couple of people I wouldnt want to be around if they had had a bad day at the office, but only one who is truely dangerous permanentlyGawdzilla wrote:I count three.

Thats sniping distance or nearer, I'm assuming they don't have access to surface to surface missiles but who knows?

I wonder what Seth's sniping distance is

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Re: RatSkep voluntary refugees here
I left Rational Skepticism at the same time and for the same reasons as Gallstones, minus the ban. Basically they were moderating against certain points of view, rather than against problematic posts or posters.macdoc wrote:Number of you are voluntary refugees from RatSkep and they are having a few modding issues over there at the moment.
Interested in hearing uncensored feedback on why you left or if you are an active member on both as I am - why do you prefer one over the other.
I find RatSkep tight assed at times and wish at least for certain categories - especially woo bashing - they'd loosen up instead of letting obvious trolls hide behing FUA nonsense.
I do think the Science and Arts forums work there tho Science has maybe too many subforums.
Trying to get management to dump the woo forums including ALL skydaddy junk down at the bottom with pseudoscience and conspiracy as a free for all fire zone![]()
Thoughts??? bacon wrapped optional.
Recently I was encouraged by a couple of the few people I respect over there to post there more, and after noticing that some of the moderators I had considered most problematic were no longer moderators there, I did in fact start posting there again.
So far, it is not as bad as it was before the moderation changes, though there are still forbidden facts. Plus, every now and then I catch myself starting to post a joke there and have to remind myself that it's here that jokes are not bannable offenses.

Re: RatSkep voluntary refugees here
The Rational Skepticism Forum was founded to take over from RDF when it closed, and after copypasting RDF's entire forum users agreement to begin with, it continued along the same path its predecessor had taken. Rules are added and they, as well as the existing ones, modified to become ever more Byzantine. Prefects with swagger sticks apply them unevenly, sometimes utilising bizarre, ad hoc interpretations in the process, all the while remaining perfectly convinced that they are fair and doing the right thing. All this keeps happening unchecked. The atmosphere resembles that of a mix of a heavily regimented school I went to and Lord of the Flies.
Dawkins' forum was a valuable resource to me, and the Rational Skepticism forum is almost as good, but this atmosphere oppresses and depresses me to the extent that I ceased posting there a long time ago and I think before my post tally got into the three-digit range. Although it's still among my forum bookmarks, I've only looked at it in the past year, or so, when I clicked on a link elsewhere. I wish its members well, but that forum is not for me.
