I'm sure the British would never have leaked that information to the Germans in hopes of drawing the US into war

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Re: War
Because getting the Germans to sink a ship carrying a bunch of US citizens would get the US to side with the UK. At best the UK was guilty of using them as human shields.

Re: War
it was illegal for the UK to transport munitions on civilian ships. It was legal for the Germans to sink any ships carrying munitions, and the Germans had to rely on submarines due to UK naval supremacy.Gawdzilla wrote:Seems you're missing about 90% of the information on this matter.Tyrannical wrote:Because getting the Germans to sink a ship carrying a bunch of US citizens would get the US to side with the UK. The US should have remained strictly neutral and stayed out of European affairs. Or at least sold stuff to both sides

Re: War
That kinda depends on how deeply the soldiers are steeped in the ideology of their own side. For example, it's fairly certain that those sent forward to die for the Taliban really do have more in common with the people who sent them out to die than they do with those they are killing.Seraph wrote:...When will it be realised that the soldiers who do the killing have more in common with the people they are sent out to kill than those who they do the killing on behalf of?..

I don't think we do have fewer wars. There are wars going on all over the planet right now to one extent or another. And we don't have "less destructive wars," we have much more destructive wars.Blind groper wrote:And this explains why today we have fewer wars, and less destructive wars than any time in history, how?Seth wrote:War is what happens when societies have too many young men and too few young women for them to screw and society needs to a) obtain more women; and b) cull the herd of young bucks of the more aggressive members who are causing social unrest because they can't get laid. It's a biological urge from way back when.
Every motive for war can be traced back to this fundamental societal balancing equation to one extent or another.
Which is why China and North Korea are so very damned dangerous to world peace, and Russia is a pretty toothless bear right now. Too many men in China and NK, too many women in Russia.

War is a kick, and quite addictive, while sucking furiously. Strange contradiction I will not even try to explain.
