Basically, it is deporting any number of poor families away from their home city and dumping them in Dakota, because they qualify and housing aid, but the rent prices in Dakota are more affordable than in NYNY.Gawdzilla wrote:Can somebody explain all that?

Seems to me that housing benefit should be capped. you can't afford to rent a place even with it, tough, move.

Well, because they may have some roots in that area, and maybe that will help them find a job there? At any right, what right has the state to deport people based on the rent price where they live? Maybe controlling housing costs would be more effective?mistermack wrote:The abuse of housing benefit in London is phenomenal though. Why should people have a right to housing benefit in a particular area?
Most working people can't afford to live in central London. It's too expensive. So why should we pay housing benefit, in areas where even the fairly well-off struggle to live, on their own money?
What's wrong with having to move?
In London, rents are kept artificially high, by the availability of housing benefit. So people with nothing, are keeping people with jobs from living and working in some areas.
The way they are going, the Great Wen is going to become a Georgian house for the wealthy, except they make no provisions for servant quarters, and I'll be damned if a city can survive without its little people.

Cost of lodging in London has been through the roof for longer than any man can remember, except maybe historians with a specialty in that particular area.mistermack wrote:In London, rents are kept artificially high, by the availability of housing benefit. Rents are going to stay where they are regardless of deportations, the vacancies will just be filled by people who want to dwell here, and can afford to.
Until they decide to move to Stoke because there ain't no way you can live in a city where there are no people working in a restaurant, no building is being done, and getting a plumber or glazier takes weeks and costs more than the services of a barrister (as they must rent accomodations, garage spece, and possibly professional space and supplies when they commute from the midlands)

Re: Social Cleansing Or Lucky Bleeders?
Most of the people working in restaurants in London are not British citizens and can't get housing benefit, they tend to share 10 people to a room etc (ok slight exaggeration).
London needs to become a mega city of 20 million people and we need to build another one of a similar size up north somewhere and we can turn the rest of the country into disneyland or something

Re: Social Cleansing Or Lucky Bleeders?
Here, let Tyrannical explain it
London is an expensive city, and because it is expensive it "suffers" from a lack of minorities because they can't afford to live there.
In order to bring the benefit of "diversity", the local governments provide housing vouchers similar to Section 8 in the US.
Of course since London is expensive, some of these vouchers cost over $40,000 a year for rent.
Now that the maximum yearly rental benefit has been lowered to $33,500 a year, some people think that is unfair and minorities in London will be forced to move out.
So yes, the world is still fucking insane and economic collapse is inevitable.

I don't know a thing about 'diversity' ... but assuming the deported people are actually poor employed people, there still are people in government who need to learn that hemp is good for more than smoking, and an appointment with John Ketch esq.

House prices in the UK are almost entirely based on where work is either nearby or easily commutable. If poor people are living in expensive areas there is a fair chance its because they are working there

Low skilled employable people do not generate enough tax revenue to offset the high cost of housing them in affluent cities. The better solution would be to house them in "single wide" trailers and transport them to areas with work.Svartalf wrote:I don't know a thing about 'diversity' ... but assuming the deported people are actually poor employed people, there still are people in government who need to learn that hemp is good for more than smoking, and an appointment with John Ketch esq.
City real estate cost are just a factor of commute time. Move all the low wage earners to the cheaper suburbs thirty or forty miles away and house them in single wides, but bus them in for their daily commute.

The only people in live in central London are Russian drug dealers/former KGB agents and Arab princes, the suburbs 30-40 miles out are only a bit cheaper. London is a bit of a weird city even by European standards in Berlin or Paris ordinary people actually live in the centre which isnt really true for LondonLow skilled employable people do not generate enough tax revenue to offset the high cost of housing them in affluent cities. One of the reasons I suspect and have often thought this, is the regulations which don't let builders build 'up'. There are very few high rise buildings compared to many similar cities.
Re: Social Cleansing Or Lucky Bleeders?
They proposed lots of other changes too... like no housing benefit for anyone under 35 living alone ,like deducting payments for every spare room . All this and the fact that most private landlords will not take tenants on benefits and I can't see how the Cuntservatives are not going to make lots of people homeless . So far I don't think one of their reforms has saved any money .But that wasn't the point of them anyway .

and employed people are too valuable in this economy to displace to somewhere where they can't commute to their job.Tyrannical wrote:Low skilled employable people do not generate enough tax revenue to offset the high cost of housing them in affluent cities. Ergo, the problem is not with the council keeping them housed where they are (which is pretty far from their actual working place in most cases anyway), but the fact that the rent prices are allowed to rise to unreasonable levels, given the kind of people who are going to dwell there.

Rent and purchase costs are out of control due to a lack of supply (ie an over regulated market). While housing benefit and mortgage susbisides don't help its the lack of houses thats the big problem
