Bad enough they took a masterpiece like The Running Man and turned it into some silly tween series called hunger games or something.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

That's complete bollox. I was pre-loaded to hate Zoolander based on how awful it looked by the trailer, secretly raged as I was dragged in to see it by friends, and thought it was fucking hilarious. Though that film was one of only a couple of exceptions. Mostly my movie sense is very good and I can sniff out a shite film even by simple things sometimes like the lettering used on the poster or the choice of music. I'm rarely wrong but I've no problem saying it when I am.
But you have to remember that I use you as a barometer. If you don't like a movie I put it first in queue.
But you like nearly every movie anyway so I'm not sure how I can be any type of reliable barometer.
First, I don't put movies on pedestals, so I can like a movie without worshipping it. Second, that barometer has proven reliable. Third, I don't go to movies I'm not interested in, and I say when I hit a bad one.

Funnily enough if the film had've been like the book it could've been a masterpiece. That's a film I would like to see remade, as long as they made it like the book and not remade the film. The main protagonist's part was written for Bill Duke. The only problem they might have is with the 9/11 like ending. They'd probably have to change it as not to offend American audiences even though the book pre-dates the events by 20+ years.

The barometer only proves reliable because you're exercising confirmation bias. There are plenty of films we both like. Maybe even more so than the ones I hated and you liked if anyone could be bothered to lit them.

I'm not talking about the movies we both like, I'm talking about seeing you hate something and feeling that it's a good thing to see it. I might not like it either, but so far it's been safe to go based solely on your attitude that it sucks.

Well that still doesn't make me a barometer. At most it makes my opinion on film, to you, negligible.

Well, there's your problem. I cured myself of taste a long time ago.

And sure, Total Recall is no Blade Runner obviously, but you don't watch Arnie movies for plot and character development, you see them 'cause they're silly and ridiculous and entertaining.

And I have, for those very reasons. But I liked the recent remake of "Condom duh Beerbarian" because it was funny.

See THAT is a masterpiece. You can watch it today and it's still perfect. I know they will eventually remake it and I will rant and rave. But an Arny flick I just can't work up effort to give a shit about.
Blade Runner is a masterpiece, and so is Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, but they are only loosely connected. I'd love to see another rendition of the book told from the perspective of the central character (whatshisname). I don't think it would be easy to translate to film though, and would probably be borked, but if done well it could be excellent.

IIRC, I saw the original, and it was a bad schwarzie vehicle and not even a good spinoff from the original story... I stay open on the new one

Oh so they've given it a nice late nineties grime-over, increased the chick hotness by about 25%, and gotten an actor in for the main role. Rest of it looks like QTE's from Deus Ex and ME3. Nor do I have much in the way of faith in the script writers. Still it does have Bryan Cranston in it. I might watch it eventually.

And as for the original, yes it's ham fisted, over the top day glo cheesy bollox, however I'm of the opinion that Verhoeven always slightly subverts that form in entertaining ways. I'm uncertain as to whether the new version will be anything other than surface.

It was a good ten years before I noticed that the faux wifey was Sharon Stone.

They are remaking Robocop. This is getting out of hand.
