Italy Immolations

Post by Coito ergo sum » Fri Mar 30, 2012 3:45 pm

A Moroccan worker in Italy set himself on fire on Thursday in protest at not being paid for months, a day after an Italian businessman set himself alight over a tax dispute, police said.

The first guy, I would think, could report the matter to the labor board or equivalent in Italy that would chance an employer down for nonpayment of wages. Here in the US, failing to pay wages can be a misdemeanor in some states, and there are departments that address nonpayment of wages free of charge. Since Italy is Yerpeein, it is not even a question that they have much better processes to address worker rights than we have here in the Libertardian wonderland and capitalist wet-dream known as Merka.

I would think a tax dispute ought to be resolvable through legal process. If he owes money, don't they let you make payments?

I'm thinking immolation may well have been an option best saved for somewhat later in the processes.

The Moroccan hadn't been paid in four months? That sounds a little suspect. Perhaps he was fired four months ago and that is why he isn't getting paid?
Who works four months without getting paid anyways?

More likely, he was illegal, or at least of shaky legality (and probably working without his employer having declared it), and the boss was abusing the situation.

A bullet would be a less painful way to go.

Self immolation isn't about killing yourself efficiently, it's about making a show of it.

Even of shaky legality, I'd think he'd just stop working.

They have illegal aliens in Yerup? I thought they would be enlightened and just let everyone in, or certainly just give identification, work authorization and public benefits to illegal aliens. Only an evil society would deprive folks of those things, I've heard.

That's what happens when you attempt suppressive fire with an uzi and only one clip.

Really? And, here I thought we 'merkins were all gun crazed. That is how our capitalist wonderland works. Every man for himself and disputes are settled at the O.K. Corral.
