Snow White and the Huntsman

Post by Ronja » Sun Mar 25, 2012 4:16 pm

Thank you Zilla for posting the official trailer in the Trailers Only thread.

I just showed this other, slightly longer trailer / sneak peek to the kids and they said they definitely want to see it. I insisted on that this will be a see-at-home movie, because it is clearly scary.

A darker Snow White I find hard to imagine... The queen seems incredible - if Charlize Theron can keep up what shows in the trailers, she will be stuff for nightmares. (that's a compliment, BTW)

Fuckin sweet :tat:
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Oh my!
Snow White and the Huntsman’ director...

Originally fairy tales weren't always sweetness and light - and they didn't always have happy endings. Through the centuries, they've been sanitized - and since Disney got their hands on them, turned into something the original tellers of the stories probably wouldn't recognize as the same tale.

Interesting that the Snow White story is being ressurected in two films around the same time..Julia Roberts is starring in a comedy version getting released next week:

Absolutely. In at least two of the printed versions of Snow White that we or relatives own, the evil queen gate-crashes Snow White's wedding, and when her identity is revealed, she is forced to wear a pair of iron shoes that have been heated in the fire, and dance in them until she dies.

Then there are the mutilated feet of Cinderella's step sisters, and Rapunzel's prince whose eyes are stuck out by the thorny bushes that the witch casts him into, and... It's a gruesome list.

Once upon a time, I had a book of fairy tales that were the older versions. I seriously doubt that there were many of them that would pass muster as children's stories today. (Wish I still had it. It got lost in some move or another.)

It looks like this movie is harkening back to a darker version of the tale. I would like to see it.

That's why they're Grimm fairy tales, folks.

Indeed...there's a reason why they are called Grimm's Fairy Tales. :mutley:

Aww, I actually have the same story as yours Ayaan. When I was about eight and really could read well, my father gave me a book of fairy tales from all over the world that he purchased at Stanford Bookstore - it more for adults from a historical perspective I think. Some of them were very dark and scary, which is actually why I liked them so much. I remember one in particular all about hell, with several different devil-like characters of various powers with all varieties and lengths of pornographic looking tongues, and whole families of imps, which is where I first learned what an imp was.

Anyway, it was lost and I really regret having lost it, it had some fabulous illustrations.

German folklore has some pretty, creepy scary stuff. Dead bodies jumping out of graves...that's some serious attempts at child discipline. Just scare the bejesus out of them.

I still have our family copy of this famous book:
