"bare" hdd?
I'm looking at this (Seagate Barracuda 7200 3 TB 7200RPM SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST3000DM001) and I'm wondering what else I would need to stick this into my desktop computer. Looks like I'd need a case for it?

I don't think bare means no casing. I might be wrong here, but I don't think one without casing would last very long, with dust getting in.Gawdzilla wrote:I'm looking at this (Seagate Barracuda 7200 3 TB 7200RPM SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST3000DM001) and I'm wondering what else I would need to stick this into my desktop computer. It probably means bare, without cables or software. I'm just guessing though.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

That's what I am hoping, because the idea of shipping a bare drive makes me woozy.mistermack wrote:I don't think bare means no casing. Yeah, no manual no cables no shiny box. Fraction of the price. Get it
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.
Code: Select all
// Replaces with spaces the braces in cases where braces in places cause stasis
$str = str_replace(array("\{","\}")," ",$str);

I got a 2 TB drive off ebay a while back, for £35 second hand.Azathoth wrote:Yeah, no manual no cables no shiny box. Fraction of the price. Get it
I use it in a little docking station called a cyclone fusion, you can connect to the usb of the laptop, or to the tv using HDMI.
All my recorded video on one disk. But I'm shit-scared of it dying on me, and losing all that saved stuff.
The price of s/h hard disks is still sky-high at the moment, and new ones are hard to get.
It's the aftermath of the floods in Thailand, that put most of the world's manufacturing of hard disks out of action.
Why they were all in one place I can't imagine.

My Gateway FX has Plug-and-Play bays in the front, just open the sliding cover and stick 'er in. I was hoping this was the option I was wanting.Azathoth wrote:Yeah, no manual no cables no shiny box. Fraction of the price. Get it
