Just been re-reading that Sylvia Plath poem and wondered if women today still prefer a man in a smart uniform with a cruel brutal side? or men find they have more repsect with a suit on, more love if they are strict and stern and loud? My wife prefers me when I'm standing my ground, she says. I've yet to figure out if a uniform does anything - it probably does I'm guessing with her love of the washing machine hell.

I used to be Master-at-arms in a W.A.V.E.S. barracks, back when they were still called that. The sweet young things were very nice in their uniforms, and even better out of them.

I find nothing appealing about an official uniform of any kind (if anything I find it off-putting for many reasons) and definitely have no love of cruel, particularly stern or loud personalities. I'm sure many, possibly even most women find those things appealing, I'm just not one of them
