No.

I had a few years of vague lessons at school. You, on the over hand, have had English immersion for years, on the internet if not elsewhere...

And you, and Ronja, and MiM and others, have multi-lingual skills I admire, but will never possess...

Actually, I have contempt for my lack of multilingual skills, since English is the only foreign language I have managed to master.

You've done better than I, old chap. I studied French for 4 years, German for 3 and Latin for 1 and I can't say anything stuck.

Language teaching, at least in my day, was woeful. Only started at 11, which is too late, IMO.

Lol... You think it was better for me?
I started grasping English when I discovered there were books in that language that were worth reading and difficult to obtain in translated form. Before then, I was the dunce at the back of the class. When I started seriously on it, what I had been taught without assimilating it started clicking together. and to tell you just how dreadful the teaching was, I was in fourth form, and three months after getting onto it, I had better English than the teacher. (seriously, I had acquired vocabulary that the damn airhead did not recognize, even though I know now that it was not THAT unusual)

We had good teachers and I reckon I could have got the hang of French, had I persisted. But German....German is impossible.

German? German is the language I got closest to actually mastering short of English. Had I had opportunity to go on practicing it after I left high school, I think I might have broken the fluency barrier.
Of course, I couldn't, and after two years of enforced non practice, it had faded to the point that I had to ask my old Norse prof a special reading list because I just couldn't read college level stuff in German.

Then again, I seem to have some kind of affinity for Germanic languages, they are those that come to me the easiest.

The lumpen denizens of the lesser nations need only so much of our glorious German tongue as will allow them to obey orders. Is it not so? Ask of the Greeks.

Romney won pretty handily in Illinois.

I hear talk now that Santorum and Gingrich should drop out and just accept Mittens :blah:
Neither can beat Mittens, but they can keep him from winning :{D If Mittens can't win, we have an open convention where then Santorum or Newt could "possibly" win. Or even Ron Paul :zilla:
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

They should drop out because Gingrich and Paul can't win, and Santorum is a total douche.

But they can keep the others from winning. I know Ron Paul wants an open convention.
