Assuming that is in fact the case. Standard operating procedure if you're collared for something like this:

1) I wuz hacked
2) I was drunk, your honour

If he told the truth the second time around, it's still no excuse. All the more so as the rest of cyberspace will usually have no real idea if the poster is drunk, as so they have to take the comments on face value.

Yeah, however "I was Drunk" is only an excuse proffered by and accepted by Drunks. I couldn't imagine the CPS having a section in their manual about "reduced sentencing due to intoxication."

Personally I think his behaviour was appalling, but a conviction more so. Let me just go into that a bit further though.

When I heard the news about Fabrice Muamba I thought it very sad and I thought, facebook and twitter will have loads of drunk football wanks having a go at him being black and surprise surprise. We are now convicting people for transmitting commentary or having opinions others find offensive. I'm finding it hard to reconcile this. Should Johnathon Woss and Russell Brand have ended up with convictions, what about the makers of "Jerry Springer: The Opera.". As much as I hate them and wish them all dead, all the Rangers and Celtic fans that infect my area with their drunken sectarian chanting? Should they all go to jail?

What about those who criticise the coalition government?

How about pro-democratic Syrian protesters here calling for the head of Assad?

I'm very concerned about this. Especially as I am calling for the public executions of all involved in that fucking "little boxes" O2 commercial.

Fair comment, although there's probably more that could be said. It's a very wide area of discussion.

One of the distinguishing features about on-line activity is that people can do it while being anonymous - or at least they think they can. Some people tend to be a lot more direct when they think they can't be traced. Also, the fact that you usually have to type your comments means that you must take at the very least a few seconds to think them through, and then commit them to the Internet. Because of that, people might take such comments more seriously than (say) something that was uttered in the heat of the moment.

The notion that someone can be arrested and have his liberty taken away from him for merely tweeting an offensive comment (racist or otherwise) that does not in fact imminently threaten a breach of the peace is disgusting, tyrannical and evil, and any government that does so needs to be made to cease to exist with extreme prejudice immediately by any means necessary.

That's what we did in 1776 when Mad King George fucked with our liberties, and that's what ought to happen now...except that Brits are servile fuckwits who put up with this sort of despotic conduct by their government without rising up in arms over it, so they get what they deserve and not a whit of sympathy from me.

Dumb motherfuckers... :fp:

I agree, but somehow if we did rise up to exterminate our political class (which we won't, you're right, we are a nation on our knees), I think you'd be siding with them unless everyone else thought we were in the wrong, at which point you'd probably any support any protests just to be contrary.

Scrolling...

No, actually, I agree with you in so far as prosecuting someone for making racist comments is ridiculous and dangerous, but the rest reminds me of a scene in The Great Dictator, where Charlie Chaplin parodies Hitler's style of delivering speeches. He talks in faux German, and a voiceover "translates" it into English. At one point Hitler suddenly launches into a prolonged vein-busting tirade, screaming and yelling, with agitated gestures to match. The interpreter says: "The Fuhrer is referring to the Jewish People." That to me encapsulates you whenever you launch into hyperbole describing progressives and the disadvantaged. It gets rather boring. I got the drift before you were even banned at RDF. There has been nothing new since then.

That's because Progressives, Socialists and Marxists haven't changed and the arguments against them remain the same, and remain utterly unrefuted and unchallenged. As usual, no Progressive, Socialist or Marxist has ever had the courage to actually try to defend their ideologies, they just engage in Alinsky tactics of personal attack and insult like the one you use here, although usually less eruditely and more crudely.

But then again my comments are not intended to wake up the brain-dead Progressive, Socialist and Marxist useful idiots, they are meant as a caution to others who might get the wrong impression of Progressivism, Socialism or Marxism based on the mindless drivel and propaganda spouted here by the Alinskyites and come to think that they are rational ideologies rather than manifest insanity.

Which is my way of saying "pot, kettle, black."

Perhaps so. The problem I have Seth, (which in all honesty I find a bit depressing to be honest) that in your attempts create a persona which is a social gadfly you have taken so many contrary and often absurd positions for the sake of it that, that it impossible for me to consider anything you say genuine. Since it seems to me that some of your opinions (whether genuinely held or for effect) are in and of themselves Authoritarian to the extent it seems to contradict that "Death to Tyrants" slogan, unless you're claiming Death to Tyrants to clear the way for yourself.

I'm not entirely serious, but then neither are you eh?
