They don't make the distinction clear about Mississippians in the first clip...you're right. But they do make the distinction about Mississippian's in last night's discussion...considering Alexandra Pelosi was not an interview guest until last night and it wasn't discussed in more detail the week before like it was last night, I think how it was handled was still very even handed.

The most valid point I found that was made is that those poor Mississipians are taking the handouts, all the while biting the hand that feeds them. At least the welfare queens vote in their own self interest(s)?.

What people defended was that it wasn't an accurate representation of poor conservatives, and that they they weren't fairly representative of the state as whole. I totally disagree...it's a very poor state.

The notion of whether it was a fair representation has been covered to death already. Maher isn't arguing about that in the second video. He's defending the welfare queens as being entitled to their money because they're black. He's no saying, "This isn't an accurate representation." he's saying, "They have a point!" What a crock of shit. There won't be any liberal media attack on him because everything that says anything bad about any liberal has to have so many qualifiers, be defended, etc, etc... Meanwhile he was stressing that even the willingness of some of the people in the first video to forgo assistance because of their beliefs was not admirable by pointing to the one guy who was clearly being a hypocrite and pushing him as the 'example.' Maher is a fucking liar and piece of shit.

No, he's defending their right to it because because at least they vote in their interests - unlike the poor conservatives who pretend to not take assistance, claiming instead to vote their religious beliefs. Did you not see the numbers Ayaan just posted? Mississippi takes more than it's fair share of assistance...At least the welfare queens openly admit they are taking advantage of the assistance. You don't think that it's hypocritical to make fun of the assistance you are taking, in addition to the people that legislate providing that assistance? I could easily call them "fucking lying pieces of shit".

The only other distinction I see in these two groups is one group is called 'welfare queens' and the other 'toothless hicks'.

Assistance that I take wt the welfare office is stuff that I choose to take. If my state gets more money for education from the federal government than we contribute, then that's not something I have any direct power over, or reflecting on a personal choice I made. Admiring the moochers for being so honest about how useless they are over people who don't take assistance when given the option, really? Also, the "voting against their own self interest" is a dishonest condescending political meme put forth by the left. You don't get to decide for other people what's in their own interest. You don't know what's best for them. And that saying is all about supposing you do. Stop being such an arrogant busybody. If some of these people value their integrity more than your precious hand outs then how about you have the courtesy to not mock them for it all the while claiming that you are only trying to help them as you insult them for their clear inferiority to yourself and people who think like you. You seem to think an awful lot like Bill Maher, and that is meant as a personal insult, although I doubt you'll take it as one.

I don't want to make you look bad Andrew, I just want to talk about this kind of stuff WITHOUT getting personal or taking it personally.

I know you have a good heart, you just express it differently from me. :dunno:

The difference between actual modesty and false modesty is tricky. I can't tell when someone is claiming to be open minded in an attempt to win over people and when they really are. I don't value modesty of a political nature. I value integrity over compassion and it makes me a blunt, strident, direct person. If there's anything that really irks my chains it's hypocrisy because for all the disagreements and different values that mature honest people might have with and from each other, no honest person should knowingly contradict them self unless they have changed their mind on something. Pelosi came in attempting to make this a learning experience, but Maher totally deflated it by refusing to allow blatant free loaders to go undefended while he relentlessly mocked the people form the first video before. Tell me, how is this anything other than blatant hatred for the 'other' and tell me how you can defend him in what he has done without condoning bigotry. I mean that in all seriousness.

One is portrayed as being uneducated and stupid, and representative of either an entire state or the majority of the state that supports a certain political ideology.

The other is portrayed as a few folks that, while sounding uneducated and stupid, are at least behaving rationally and are in a way correct. Did anyone come away with the notion that the people lined up at the welfare office were being alleged to be representative of liberals?

I don't see how anyone can watch the two videos side by side and miss the clear difference in presentation.
