Man loses toe in Nottingham escalator accident

A man has lost a toe after his foot was trapped in a shopping centre escalator in Nottingham.

The man was taken to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre for treatment after the accident on Thursday, East Midlands Ambulance Service said.

Nottingham City Council's Environmental Health section has closed down the escalator at the West End Arcade and started an investigation.

An eyewitness said the man was "screaming in agony".

I hate escalators. I was stuck on one for hours during a power outage. :lay:

Hours sounds bad. :console:

For me it was quite enough to get stuck in an elevator when I was 39 weeks (that's D-day estimate - 1 week) pregnant with YD. It took maybe 15 minutes in all, but the thought of possibly going into labor in there, alone, was soooo not comforting...

What I want to know is how do you get stuck on an escalator for hours - an elevator I understand but an escalator? Wouldn't you just walk up it? :ask:
I always try to choose the stairs over an escalator, simply because it's better for my health, and you never get stuck behind anyone because most people are too lazy to walk up the stairs.
