Exactly. Asking for ID is not unreasonable in the least.Feck wrote:Maybe it's because Mexicans have bigger nosesCoito ergo sum wrote:So, they're saying that Mexicans are more likely to be making Meth out of Claritin? I bet that standard claritin is a normal prescription med, or maybe OTC.. If a product is widely used to make a dangerous drug then asking for ID before a purchase doesn't seem to be unreasonable .

Re: Photo ID required!
Because illegals would be registered as voters? come on, illegals avoid all contact with the official world they can, precisely so as to stay under the radar and not be caught and deported.
Voter registration, which is restricted to actual citizens, (ergo, even legal immigrants don't do it), is far too high profile for an illegal to dare.

Then why would it be problematic to require ID? If they aren't going to try to vote anyway?Svartalf wrote:Because illegals would be registered as voters? come on, illegals avoid all contact with the official world they can, precisely so as to stay under the radar and not be caught and deported.

In the US, voter registration is not "high profile."

Dunno... I assume that you have to give proofs of both current residence and citizenship... which makes you rather conspicuous if anything looks funny.

You're re-hashing the excuses used by the people who want these restrictions, that "voter fraud" is a serious problem. But voter fraud is a miniscule issue and it is not something that's widespread, for reasons that should be perfectly obvious. Of far greater importance, this measure would serve to discourage voter registration - particularly in Democratic-leaning areas. That's what the real issue is: partisan electioneering.Coito ergo sum wrote:Then why would it be problematic to require ID? So, on this issue, we need not do what the enlightened Europeans generally do. Check.

I have plenty of derision for plenty of things in Europe, so don't try to call me a hypocrite there. Europe could take a number of lessons from us now and then...

You'd think so, but they've gotten "uppity" latelySvartalf wrote:Because illegals would be registered as voters? come on, illegals avoid all contact with the official world they can, precisely so as to stay under the radar and not be caught and deported.
Voter registration, which is restricted to actual citizens, (ergo, even legal immigrants don't do it), is far too high profile for an illegal to dare.

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

When I vote there is no id whatseover they ask your name and where you live and check according to their lists whether you have already voted. Always found that a bit suspect but as getting people to vote in the first place is generally a lot harder than getting them to vote fraudently its never been top of anyone concernsCoito ergo sum wrote:So, on this issue, we need not do what the enlightened Europeans generally do. Re: Photo ID required!
I hope no one would have to pay for photo id and if voting isnt withing easy walking distance I would expect travel costs or postal voting with a free stamp to be allowed

Re: Photo ID required!
It's pretty well settled that fraudulent voting has gotten Presidents elected. Most people accept that it occurred in 1960, and it was alleged rampantly in 2000. Requiring IDs would help minimize the ability of those schemes to be carried through.MrJonno wrote:When I vote there is no id whatseover they ask your name and where you live and check according to their lists whether you have already voted.
