No, it showed that in census self-reporting, 52% claim to be of European decent.
People lie about their descent?
But, the link I gave showed higher numbers than that.
Bottom line - they're not latino. Only 7.4% are black. And, I was accused of racism because I made a joking, negative reference to Brazlilians. I was told that it's racist because Brazillian has brown and black people and therefore can't compete with white people - that's apparently what I was supposed to have said. I'm not a racist in the least.
I'm off to go to dinner with a dozen Brazilian immigrants, by the way. We'll be speaking Portuguese. There is brown one in the group, but her father was from India, so she has that Indian skin tone to some extent. The rest are white. Oh, one is part Japanese.
I think I'll have a Caipirinha tonight -- mmmmm..... hope we go somewhere where they have Cachaca. For anyone wanting to try to the national drink of Brazil - take a healthy shot of Cachaca over ice, put in a couple spoons of sugar. Cut half a lime into 4 slices, squeeze some of the juice in there, and drop the limes in. Cachaca is a kind of Brazilian rum made out of pure sugar cane (not molasses).
Make the same thing with vodka and it's a Caipiroska. Tasty, too, if you have no Cachaca (pronounced Ka-sha-sa).
Peace be unto you, Pappa.
