The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

Time for a salutary and character-building lesson to be dished out to the colonials. Come on KP, whose limbs were made in....errr....South Africa......Never mind that! He's as English as misery.

336/7 at close of play in the first ashes test. A bit of a comeback after a dodgy start but I would like to see England hang around for one more session tomorrow and take that to 400 at least before I would call it a decent total.

Pretty even first day, I'd say. Pity about losing Flintoff & Prior late on, we'd have been well in front if those two were still in.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:336/7 at close of play in the first ashes test. I think England have just shaded it there. Solid days play.
