As much as I am a fan of the of the American Sitcom I can't stand TBBG. In fact I think only writers who believe in intelligent design, could concoct such crap. I genuinely tuned in not knowing what it was and thought it a sitcom about a blond girl who is the carer for some adults with serious behaviour and emotional difficulties. Then I realised, no they're not autistic, they're retarded... they act like little boys... oh no wait... there umm... students? Nope boffins! AAAH yes. Look at the stupid brainiacs and their lack of social skills. Hahah.

Still as bad as it is, at least its not Will and Grace, which I hold partially responsibly for the war on terror.

As much as I am a fan of the of the American Sitcom I can't stand TBBG.

Maybe that's the thing. I generally hate American sitcoms but I LOVE The Big Bang Theory as an exception in so many ways. The dialogue is so much more intelligent, multi-faceted and just plain funny. And there has never been a character like Sheldon on any sitcom before. I don't even have a television, let alone cable, but have seen the first three and half series on DVD.

It's not perfect. Raj is a bit of a weak character in some ways and his inability to talk to women thing comes across as pretty fake, and doesn't sustain the humour it's supposed to. I hate the canned laughter - I don't know whether all sitcoms are still made that way but it reminds me of when canned laughter was done really badly and obviously in the 70s. I'd have thought they'd have managed to make it seem more natural.

But all in all it's great.

I don't think it uses canned laughter. Most of them these days are filmed in front of a studio audience - real laughter though probably edited a bit where necessary.

Ok... me too, except I watch it on my computer because I'd never accept the gift of a tv again... last time somebody gave me one, I kept it 2 or 3 years, and ended up giving it away because it was turning me into even more of a vegetable than I normally am.

I'd say that of 99% of sitcoms, but feel this one is the exception to the rule.

Nah it's not great.Though if you enjoy it I'm pleased for you. There is so much crap out there in T.V. land that if you do find something you enjoy then its a bonus.

In real life, Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) has a PhD in neuroscience and is a devout follower and student of Judaism. A somewhat weird mix. She is also vegan (and kosher vegan to boot!)
