Sure, but what's so awesome looking about it? Looks like pretty standard fare, and the animation is Shrekish.

When you say standard fare, what do you mean? If you're saying that the story is a recognizable trope from fairy tale and fantasy stories, I agree. I don't see that as a drawback. And I like the move to create a "princess" character who is a hero-- an instigator of action, a fighter. Disney needs more of those sorts of characters.

As for the drawing, I can see why you think it looks a bit Shrekish. Again, I don't see why that's a drawback. I really enjoyed the first two Shrek movies. And the two films probably share some staff artists.

I don't reject an Anime film I haven't seen because it has stylistic resemblances to every other Anime film I've seen. Why would I do that here?

Well, maybe you don't enjoy anime, either, so we'll leave that there.

Besides which, the clips of landscape shown in the trailer are stunning. I think they are grander than anything I remember from Shrek.

Brave looks fun, and exciting, and I like adventure tales set in Scotland. There.

I does look uncomfortably similar to How to Train Your Dragon, now you mention it.

Our daughters, ED especially, have just informed us that there is no such thing as too much of How to Train Your Dragon.

If they go that route, they may have a "violence against women" problem to deal with. A fighter often has folks fighting back.

I hate the look of Anime. Reminds me of Japanese cartoon porn. I half-expect an octopus tentacle to appear...

Alrighty then. Perhaps it will be. I get the impression that they still haven't figured out how to make a film about a "strong woman" without in some way denigrating males. That seems to be difficult across the field of movies and television. Strong women are always married to dopey, fat, befuddled men. Here, in Brave, the clip shows three male characters, all drawn ugly, stupid, clumsy, lazy and ineffectual. I don't know why they can't have a strong female lead who beats normal, non-ridiculous males.

Look at the king too - fat - silly and stupid. The queen is strong and attractively drawn. The male "firstborn" characters - fat and/or dopey - befuddled and clumsy. The Brave girl, drawn attractively, etc.

Tell her to lie down. When she is lying comfortably place a DVD or book of How To Train Your Dragon on top of her. Add another. Then another. Another still... and keep adding until she says 'no more'. Stand over her as she struggles to dislodge herself and quite sternly say, "You were wrong." Send to bed without supper to think over her mistake.
