Motion presented: The Tom Wolfe character Peter Fallow in Bonfire of the Vanities was based on Christopher Hitchens.
Anyone care to argue for the motion, or against the motion?

There is speculation that Hitchens was the inspiration for Tom Wolfe's character Peter Fallow in the 1987 novel The Bonfire of the Vanities, but others — including Hitchens (or he indicated as such while alive) — believe it to be Spy Magazine's "Ironman Nightlife Decathlete" Anthony Haden-Guest.

Given his amazing and colorful life, you know there will be movies made about him.
I think Timothy Spall (the guy who played Winston Churchill in the Kings Speech) would be a decent choice to play him, at least based on his looks.

I don't know him well as an actor - he does look like him a bit. Who do you think could play the role well?

Not sure. But you should be thinking of someone who can play young Hitch, not old Hitch. Make-up and prostethics can make him age as the film runs along. It's easier to make someone old than young. Check
Tron: Legacy for young Jeff Bridges fail.

I can't think of anyone.
Heh. Well, if we're talking heavy make-up/prosthetics, it'd be a hoot to see Eddie Izzard give it a go. He's trying to shift into serious acting these days, anyway. And I think he has enough smarts/humor to pull it off.
I know. I'll keep thinking of someone more to type.
