Brilliant movies made all the better by 3D.Svartalf wrote:The modern kind, with the polarized glasses rather than the two color kind, is not half bad... big problem is that the technique is applied to movies that are such lemons that not the most spectacular visuals in the world could save them.Clinton Huxley wrote:Even good 3d is crap.

I know neither... or maybe I know them under different titles, or they never crossed to this country, or came by making no noise and I never was aware of them.

Saw it yesterday. The CGI bits were OK. It works very well with the space scenes. It was horrible in the acted parts though. 3-D is acceptable for the new 3 but it will be sacrilegious when they bollocks up the real star wars films
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

3D irks me in movies and I sometimes wish it had never been reinvented, but then I remember I once got to play Quake, among other games, in one of these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_autom ... nvironment
If they set these up for general public consumption, I'd gladly pay money to game in it.

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I bought a 3D TV forgaming and love it.
Thoug, I'm all for 3D in general, I honestly think it's the next natural progression. As Ian said though, I can't wait for the fad aspect of it to fuck off.
You had the same thing when HD was introduced, people moaned that it didn't make a difference, you probably had the same thing with DVD, Technicolor and sound back in the day!
Luddites will be luddites...
What's not to like about extra depth in movies? It takes nothing away from the film and adds a bit to some others.

The sound is well known. Brits used to listen to it as they came over. When the engine sound stop it would be coming to earth shortly after. So a buzzing "Buzz Bomb" was a good thing, for you at any rate. Some other poor bastard would have a bad day, of course.Svartalf wrote:You mean thatGawdzilla wrote:It also has one of the best nerd jokes in movie history. Pod racing, darth maul light saber battle, space combat scene, the robot army war, submarine sequence..... Tons of good stuff in the movie even though it had it's weak points.
a) they managed to record V1s during WWII?
b) somebody used that sample for that noise effect?
And they captured some samples after the war and studied them. Very good footage there. The first "missile" launched from a USN submarine was a redesigned V-1.

My Mom was a WW2 war bride and all of her family emigrated here from Birmingham, England. They told stories of the buzzbombs, which were the main threat to them because the German planes couldn't quite make it to Birmingham and back to the mainland. So they bombed as far west as Coventry. My Grandparents said they could see the lights of the Coventry bombings at night on the horizon.

Retrofitted 3d is an even greater crime than colourisation. All you are doing is going back and pissing on the way the cinematographer lit and shot the film.
Films designed to be 3d from the start are more acceptable but it is still just a gimmick and encourages the worst directors to simply add lots of pointless pointy-pointing.
I don't find 3d films one jot more immersive, I find them dark, annoying and headache inducing.

3D TV?!? Oh, look! Dot Cotton's right arm appears to be slightly nearer to me than her left arm (if I wear these silly glasses, sit right head on to the TV and don't move). It's like BEING in the Queen Vic!!
2D TV is shit. 3D TV is shitter.

2D 3D couldn't care less about it.
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky

Actually not a lot. Some of those 8 bit games are hard to beat for gameplay, and Mario 64, now pretty old stuff, is possibly the best game ever. What we get now is super duper flash and bang, often with not much behind it.Clinton Huxley wrote:What's bloody wrong with Manic Miner?!The Curious Squid wrote:3D gaming is the shit! So there
