I couldn't think of a ticket that would excite the Republican base less.
Depends which "base" you're talking about.

There is a huge split in the Republican Party. There is the "religious right" and then there are the non-religious republicans who wish that the social conservative agenda driven by the religious right could be buried somewhere. The latter portion is larger than you may realize.
The base I'm talking about (the religious right) is a more reliable voting bloc. And a lot of Paul's people hate Romney and vice versa. Talk about a match made in Hell.

Is there a candidate that represents them? Do they have much of a voice?
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

They have about as much of a voice as the Democrats who continued to protest our aggressive foreign policy after Obama took office, which is to say, almost none.

Ron Paul basically does. He is not a bible-thumper and is certainly against social conservatism.

I actually think the only real bible-thumper douche there is Santorum. Romney doesn't want to talk about religion, and as a Mormon I highly doubt he'd put religion front and center. And, Newt's personal baggage is probably the best thing about him - no way for him to moralize.

If had to pick a team, I think I'd pick Newt/Romney.

I doubt anyone is really going to put Ron Paul on the ticket.

Has Santorum considered the possibility that Romney and Paul just both can't stand him?

Or maybe the fact that they were the two people on either side of him in the debate last night. Gingrich was out of physical reach.

I honestly think CNN put the seats so close together to try to create some sparks - which succeeded in spades.

Hopefully enough of a voice to keep Santorum from being the candidate.

I heard that Seth is lining up a late run.

He'll dig up the rotting corpse of Ayn Rand to be his VP.

I would prefer the sight of her rotting corpse to the sight of her alive and speaking.

Seth wouldn't have Ayn Rand run with him. Seth said atheists can't be trusted and are a danger to the body politic. So, Seth would never have an atheist running mate.

There will be a paraplegic, transexual, midget, satan worshiper in the white house before there is an atheist there.

Write down the date and time you wrote that. :levi:

(Then again, check out what some of our past Presidents have said about religion. Based on some of those quotes, they'd never be elected these days.)

I know all that.

I'm not happy about the small chance that an atheist will be elected. But, we have less of a chance than a used car salesman making it to the white house. People hate us.
