Racial slurs -- chink.

Post by Coito ergo sum » Tue Feb 21, 2012 2:05 pm

Rep. Judy Chu on Monday slammed the racial slur used in an ESPN headline about NBA phenom Jeremy Lin, saying she did not believe the phrase “chink in the armor” was an innocent mistake.
The California Democrat said on MSNBC that the headline on the Saturday story about the New York Knicks’s breakout star was “appalling and offensive.” The writer’s word choice, Chu said, was intentional.

Mayweather is on the cracky crack-- what does he mean, great black ball players don't get tons of praise? Please! It's because Lin is Asian? Whatevs, racist dude.

But "A chink in the armor" as a headline to refer to Lin? Yeah, that was intentional. Or if it wasn't, it was stupid. Props to Lin, though, for trying to just defuse the situation and move on.

Isn't armor offensive to the handicapped who don't have arms.
Also the use of the word armour without an 'u'is offensive to correct spelling

Ah, the Brits and their extraneous, yet quaint, unnecessary "u's..."

That's ouffensive!

Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

For someone who gets so up in arms about Americans being insulted around here, it sure is funny when it's not directed at you isn't it?

In the context that it was made it was a racial slur. It wasn't a comedy show, it was a sports headline.

What I find idiotic is that it made it to publication - or online or, wherever it made it. What do editors actually do these days? I see so much crap, bad grammar and misspellings on publications they don't deserve the salaries they get.

Up in arms? Of course not. I participate heartily in such banter.

What I have done is point out the incongruity of people being upset by certain names or generalizations and then having no reticence in calling Americans names or generalizing about them.

The best and the brightest don't go into journalism. That's why there isn't an investigative journalist left, and we have a media/news system which merely reports what each "side" says.
