Re: Twenty grand.
I would turn it in without a thought. I'm too damn honest to keep it. If no one claimed it and I got it back I would pay my parents back for uni, put most of it in savings, buy a camera that works, get Squid a new laptop and something to record game play on, give some to my friends and brother and probably donate the rest to animal rescues.
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

I'd hide it in a safe place for about six months, then start spending it in small amounts on day-to-day things whilst transferring much of my wages into a savings account. I'd also blow a bit from time on stuff. I'd probably use the same rationale as XC... it's almost certainly criminal money.

I'd take it to the police - and make sure I got a receipt and probably let the press know so it didn't mysteriously disappear into the policemen's pockets.
There's no way it would be returned to me if the owner weren't found in the U.S., though.

I'd take it, because sod-it how many chances like that am I going to get in life?
That kind of amount though I'd probably spend on the everyday kind of stuff rather than any big splurging - twenty million would be another matter.

You know those pennies you find laying on the ground? See a penny, pick it up, all day long, you'll have good luck. And the nickels and dimes and quarters. The occasional bill, or the rarer ten or twenty spot? That's all God's money. So whenever you take that money, you're accepting God into your life.

No that it's THAT much money, but 20G doesn't wind up in a bag in the park without baddies being involved, and I don't want to invite that kind of energy into my life. I'd take it to the police, and I wouldn't count on them giving it back, even if it goes unclaimed-- one of them would probably take it in that case, anyway.
Oddlly enough, if it were $1000 or less, I'd pocket it, no question. If there were no name on it, that is. If I could identify the owner, I'd return it in any situation. Or try to, anyway.

However, 20G, although it is a nice sum, is not that life changing sum of money, that you can live of ever after. Make that 20 Mil, and it would already be tempting to take the full risk of keeping it and move to some paradise island or something.

"Micronesia" springs most immediately to mind - as does the word "yacht".
