TESCO - Forced Labour on Starvation Wages

Post by Jesus_of_Nazareth » Fri Feb 17, 2012 12:38 pm

Perhaps time for TESCO to change their slogan from "Every Little Helps" to "Work makes you Free".

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-17066420

Workers are unpaid (by TESCO) and instead get to continue receiving Jobs Seekers allowance of £53 pw....so working for free, or about £1.50 an hour - depending on how you look at it.......if someone lived on solely that "wage" they would starve to death.TESCO don't even offer thin watery soup made out of rotten potato peelings. Maybe Hitler should have opened up a supermarket chain?

The penalty is losing other benefits (the money that does keep people alive).

The UK Min wage is £6.08 ph - the Living wage is £7.20.

If they hadn't wanted to be worked to death they could have chosen to be rich.

For "workfare scheme" read "workhouse" scheme. Back to the 19th century. I should approve but don't.

I bet TESCO snagged the idea from Newt Gingrich's proposal to bring back Child Labour.

Or from Mein Kampf.

The same happens in Australia where the supermarkets have to pay bugger all to its disabled workers.

Not to mention almost every other sector that wants cheap labor.

Well they could always burn down TESCO and murder the bosses. At least they'd get three square and be allowed to sit on their asses all day in jail. Well at least until some greedy cunt realises prisoners are also good slave labour.

It's business, as usual.

Would it really cost the taxpayer that much to pay the minimum wage for 3 months, that way way Tesco's get a virtually risk free employee for that time and the person on welfare actually does get at least some non-exploitave work experience

I believe the Tories are going to announce new schemes to get prison inmates working while incarcerated. As long as they've time on their hands, it's wrong for someone not to be making a profit.

What are british laws on force labour?
Methinks you fellows need a reminder of what large prison riots can be like... Remember, if you start enslaving convict, you mmight wake up to notice that one of those is called Spartacus.

I have no problem with that. Hard labour is a good system, bring on the chain gangs

They already have forced labour for minor infractions why not for major ones too?

Because seriously discontented hardened convicts are a far more dangerous class than common workers ever were, especially when forced to live in high concentration.

I think the US (as always!) is well ahead of the UK on this - convict labour is already a multibillion dollar industry.

Maybe I should ask if TESCO now sell small rocks - made by hand in Britain! - the garden could do with a rockery. and some fertilizer - the body of a small child should be about the right size, maybe have to wait until next week for TESCO to start launching that idea.
