What a tremendous asshole. I wanted to give him a chance despite his idiotic cowboy hat, but hated him as soon as he started to speak with that sub-moronic Southern drawl. Interesting reactions in this thread. I think it's fair to say that any parent making a video like that (whether they shoot the laptop, USA-style, give it to charity, take a sledgehammer to it, toss it in a river, or whatever) would illicit the same range of reactions, no matter whether they're really an asshole or a genuinely nice person, whether their accent was Southern-US or Glaswegian, whether they wore a hat or swimming trunks.

I put myself in a similar situation and ask myself how I'd respond to a public denigration of the kind he was subjected to by his daughter. What would I do? What would you do? Can you imagine parents who wouldn't have been so calm about it; who would have resorted to punishments more immediate and physical? Where on the scale of assholishness or decency would you put your actions?

I tend to agree. My daughter was a pain in the arse at the age of 15/16. I mean a REAL pain in the arse. Luckily it didn't last too long and that was because, except for a couple of screaming matches (which I blame myself for) talking, reason and patience won the day..or at least saw us through until she emerged into the decent, reasonable and hardworking young woman she is now at the age of 22.

I dunno, I couldn't watch the whole thing because the father was so annoying. Was she that bad? Because, to me, everything the father said didn't bolster his position but rather made me side with the daughter instead. Also, nice job snooping through personal shit, asshole. That letter was obviously a rant, a way for her to express her frustration, and obviously not meant for his eyes. Feel butthurt by it? Tough shit, asswipe, because you never should have read it to begin with.

Just goes to show that with only half a story (or half an interpretation of one side of half a story), and with our own biases and prejudices filling the gaps, we can all jump to wildly different conclusions, and form vastly different opinions of the situation.
