From what I've read of the case, yes, that's a Marine sniper unit.

Now, I can't believe that the use of the double sieg emblem was done in innocent ignorance.

Even if you assume that people up to the rank of sergeant might be from uncultured enough backgrounds to not have known, any NCO with rank or MS or gunny or above should have enough military history to have known, and told them it was totally inappropriate.

Any commissioned officer who did not know should just be axed with extreme prejudice for being a total incompetent... any NCOs or COs who learned of the project, knew what it was, and didn't put a lid on it should be disciplined to the extent of 10 years without promotion, and crap assignment, though I'm not sure what THAT would be for a jarhead overseeing snipers.

Given that whoever came up with the idea could hardly not know what those thunderbolts meant, I suspect at least #2... some might have ther first also.

Perzackity. We used the fascist logo from Italy for a few things. The message was clear, the politics was irrelevant. (Some of them did try cursing us in Italian, but was just :funny: )
I don't agree. Symbolism is important. There is at least an intimation that you have sympathy with an idea if you use its 'logo'.

No, they used black, brown, various shades of grey (notably the notorious Feldgrau favored by the Abwehr since WWI), and maybe muted greens, but blue has not been in their practice in the post 1915 period, and I don't know enough to tell if it was before then. between the Napoleonic wars and 1914.
