First Woman US President?

Post by Coito ergo sum » Wed Feb 01, 2012 8:07 pm

Who will it be?

Most people think Hillary, I suppose. But, in 2016, she will be pushing 70 years old. She might not be the first choice then...

Ian suggested Kirsten Gillebrand, out of New York, in and around 2024.

I think maybe Nikki Haley of South Carolina might be another possibility, maybe in 2020 or 2024, or even 2028.

Any other possibilities? The soonest it will happen appears to be 2016, since there won't be 'publican woman candidate this time around.

So being gaga is actually a requirement over there then? :badidea:

I haven't been paying much attention, but I guess since I haven't heard anything about it, that the republicans aren't putting any women forward? What happened to Palin?

So long as it's neither Tina Fey nor Hillary "I hate the smell of cigars" Rodham, I don't care yet.

I'm pretty sure Palin's dead in the water. After all, a candidate wearing a ball-gag would no go over well in the Deep South.

Read something about Palin thinking the Queen was head of the UK Govt rather than Head of State and had executive powers that actually vest in the PM and in Parliament.

Doh! Still you can't see the UK from Alaska, so I suppose its an understandable slip.

In the US there isn't a distinction between head of government and head of state. And, in reality in the UK and parliamentary democracy the head of state role is pretty much ceremonial. There really isn't a "state" separate from the government.

But, when an American uses the term "head of state" or "head of government" they mean the same thing.

I think Sarah Palin presumed Her Maj personally set UK Foreign policy and probably even led troops into battle.

Americans should learn that the rest of the world is not America and does not do things the American way. A presumption of similarity is a sign of intellectual laziness and a lack of curiosity.
