There are real dumbasses who don't understand that an ally's job is to help you not do something stupid... slavisshly following you is what you expect from client states.

Very true, but France's behavior relative to Iraq was abysmal. Pull the rug out from under the U.S. after assurances were made, all to protect their own deals with the Iraq despot was not "helping [the US] not do something stupid." It was lining their own pockets by means of violations of international law (violations of the UN oil-for-food program, and sales of nuclear technology to the Hussein regime, among other things).

Don't for a minute think that France was any more motivated by altruism and morality than anyone else. They were behaving in their national interest, and their national interest in 2002, they perceived, was to fuck the U.S. Fair enough. But, let's not sugar coat it and let's not pretend that France was just trying to do the right thing.

And yet nevertheless they did the right thing, and we did not.

People here seem to have forgotten the enormous debt we owe the French. If it weren't for them, we'd still be a British colony. Yeah, I think we should give the statue back. It doesn't mean anything anymore. But I suspect many Americans are too stupid to even realize it was a gift from France to begin with. Or, if they do know it was a gift, they've no idea why it was given. France had a crush on us, apparently. Unfortunately, those feelings weren't reciprocated.

Apart from the Franco American War, which was hardly even a war at all, the U.S. has been one of France's staunchest allies.

Surely, if you just think about it for two seconds, you know it's the truth. I refuse to believe you've never heard of, oh say WW1 and WW2, for example.

Which leads me to believe that you are deliberately ignoring historical facts, while choosing instead to fixate on the "freedom fries" nonsense--which hardly anyone apart from a few jackass Republicans took seriously--in order to portray Americans in the worst possible light.

What I'm wondering is, why do you do this? What sort of satisfaction do you gain from maligning Americans?
