Andrew, the problem is each person makes up their own religion from the bits they can tolerate out of the stew of almost random crap they're presented in any particular religion. So each person makes up their own religion, with some things being common with the people around them.

I think that's a bit presumptuous. I'm asking Seth about his faith. If I want to have a respectful conversation with him, I need to let him articulate his own standards for finding the truth, not assume what they are and then judge him based on a characterture of his position that I've built up in my head. I have my own experience with faith to draw from, but his experience may not be like my own.

I get that you think that this isn't real Christianity. It can be shown that people who are Christian pastors are encouraging the witch hunts and selling exorcism services to those who can afford it. It's clear that you feel that this is scam artists and barbarism done in the name of Christianity, but that this does not mean that it is an accurate portrayal of Christianity.
They aren't Christians. They are the same tribal voo-doo wicth doctors that they've always had.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

I'm not concerned with opinions of presumptuousness. That's the way it is with religions.

They aren't Christians. Christians are followers of Christ, who never suggested that anyone burn anyone else. In fact, he said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Among other statements, none of which suggest killing other people.

These are just ignorant savages who are misusing Christianity to achieve their own objectives.

For you to lump all Christians in with such barbarity is bigoted, prejudiced and unreasoned hatred.
For a large chunk of European history this kind of violent persecution 'in the name of Christ' would have been par-for-the-course.
Are you saying that until relatively recently there were "no true Christians" in Europe?

The number of real christians (as defined by Seth) in the world could probably be counted on the fingers of one hand.

For people who don't exist have sure killed a lot of people in the name of Christianity.

Probably should get rebranded from "Christianity" to "make your own warm fuzzy shit up.........ity".

I don't get tolerism. Even before I foed him, any posts he made about that made my mind go blank. Probably to protect what few shreds of sanity I have left.

Somehow I don't think it's just atheists who would find such Christian behaviour offensive and barbaric, I'm quite sure a lot of those with faith, be they Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, worshippers of Lud or Odin would also consider it appalling. I

I will just leave this here for Seth when he gets back
1) “For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV)

2) All of the vicious Old Testament laws will be binding forever. "It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." (Luke 16:17 NAB)

3) Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets. He hasn’t the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament. "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17 NAB)

3b) "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness..." (2 Timothy 3:16 NAB)

3c) "Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation, for no prophecy ever came through human will; but rather human beings moved by the holy Spirit spoke under the influence of God." (2 Peter 20-21 NAB)

4) Jesus criticizes the Jews for not killing their disobedient children according to Old Testament law. Mark.7:9-13 "Whoever curses father or mother shall die" (Mark 7:10 NAB)

5) Jesus is criticized by the Pharisees for not washing his hands before eating. He defends himself by attacking them for not killing disobedient children according to the commandment: “He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.” (Matthew 15:4-7)

6) “Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law" (John7:19) and “For the law was given by Moses,..." (John 1:17).

7) “...the scripture cannot be broken.” --Jesus Christ, John 10:35

What utter bullshit. They're Christians following their ugly fucking contradictory central book just like they did in inquisition times and nothing - nothing at all - was said about all "all" Xians, even though this crap happens century after fucking century after fucking century. Cunts. That's not hatred, that's truth. And it's ridiculous to point out that somehow "all" Christians are like this or not... just those that adhere to that shit book the way many, many others have over time. However, I'll acknowledge for your sensibilities that I'm virtually certain that my brother doesn't burn witches.

So, can we never recognize that the Nazis killed Jews, atheists and more, just because "all Nazis" didn't actively participate? Now go invoke Godwin and fuck off. Then again, the Nazis were Christian. Funny that, in an ugly sort of way.

We nailed you to a tree, poked you in the guts with a stick and then stuck your corpse in a cave then stuck a boulder in front of it and it didn't stop your bullshit, Cheezy. What makes you think it'll work for Set?
