My bet is on another "Pearl Harbour" on the Bahrain Naval base (I bet building that doesn't sound so bright nowadays!)....
where the Yeehadists let the attack happen, but underestimate the capacity of the enemy. and the effects of luck.

Probably a good strategic time for the Iranians to take on Uncle Sam, one more war and the US will never recover economically (Empires never see the end coming - nor when it has already arrived)......might kill a few muppets, but even a quick exit will be 10 years of getting killed and bleeding the Treasury (we laugh about the Greek economy nowadays - but at one time they were western civilisation......they also bled out).

Regime change? probably, but fundamently that don't matter.....over the long term (for any Amerikans reading - that's the bits beyond the next 1/4 :hehe: ).

Given that the Yeehadists are led (?!) by a weak president in an Election year - the Yids will kick something off. Even if that means sinking a US Carrier. or 2.

We'd never have to step foot on Iran.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Wouldn't want to. All that glass would be slippery.

And satellite cameras...and high-precision GPS...and drones. Love drones.

Find and identify the military and civilian leaders and their command and control facilities, then precisely target and kill and destroy them all at once in a carefully planned simultaneous attack and watch the military fall apart like it did in Iraq. Cutting the head off the snake is very effective.

If Ahmadinejad wants to go hide in the caves of the Afghan mountains or a compound in Pakistan, we'll hunt him down eventually, but he will no longer be running Iran will he? Same for the Mullahs. Kill them or merely drive them away so they can't control things and the people of Iran will do the rest.

Iran welcomes US Navy’s rescue of Iranian fishermen held by pirates

By Associated Press, Updated: Saturday, January 7, 10:21 AM

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s government on Saturday welcomed the U.S. Navy’s rescue of 13 Iranian fishermen held by pirates, calling it a positive humanitarian gesture.

U.S. officials announced Friday that the fishermen had been rescued by a U.S. Navy destroyer on Thursday, more than 40 days after their boat was commandeered by suspected Somali pirates in the northern Arabian Sea. The rescue came just days after Tehran warned the U.S. to keep the same group of warships out of the Persian Gulf in a reflection of Iran’s fear that American warships could try to enforce an embargo against Iranian oil exports.

Threat by Iran Adds to Specter of Conflict in Oil Lane

U.S. officials and the international oil industry have a nightmare scenario: A desperate Iran, itching to strike back against the West for its sanctions, attempts to block the flow of oil through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. and British officials have vowed to use force to unclog the international waterway, the narrow outlet through which one-fifth of the world's oil trade exits the Persian Gulf.

Such action is still in the realm of posturing. But as rhetoric intensifies and economic pressure mounts on a divided Iranian regime, officials and analysts are concerned that Iran could misstep or overreach, sparking a conflict.

I'm wondering how many minutes it would take for the US and the UK to sink every Iranian vessel in the Persian Gulf.

Can they really close the Straight of Hormuz?

Stand-off range is classified, of course, but the Predators would probably be orbiting off the coast in international waters waiting for a go order that would put them T.O.T. in less than an hour.

And sea-launched cruise missiles about the same.

The Iranians have drones (and not just the American ones!). And submarines. and shore based missiles that can reach the sea, even if fired from inland. Have the missiles to launch Dirty bombs on Israel, or simply to flatten a couple of Nuke Power stations to do same job - and probably could come up with a Nuke within a year.

The US can afford to lose a few ships militarily - but not politically.........and cutting off China's oil would have much the same effect as if China cut off the USA's oil from Saudi......they may even start exploring for oil off Taiwan. or on it.

Iran might not be able to cope in a head to head conflict with the USA, but I doubt if the Americans have the balls to go ashore - so most likely outcome would be the current Iranian nutjobs being replaced by others.....who still won't like the USA.

So, the USA would (yet again) be a loser in the Middle East as would show that not only does the Emperor have no clothes - has no underpants either.
