Not really over Iran, but rather to protect their own interests in that region. China is rather dependent on Iranian oil.

There is no love in foreign politics, only interest. As I said no one's going to defend Iran because they are fond of that looney Ahmadinejad or are concerned for the well being of Iranian people, but rather because the current Iranian regieme suits their interest.

Middle East macho male posturing. Nothing to worry about until they do something. It'll put the guys on the ships in the gulf under a little more pressure. Maybe the Iranians are looking to up the tension and then send a RC jet liner filled with corpses out towards a jittery fleet in the hope it'll get shot at?

This would be sorted PDQ if the RN sent a carrier or two to the area.

Give us 15 years and we might have one ready.

We'll be waiting. :levi:

BTW, will you still have anyone who knows how to conduct carrier ops then? I hear it's slightly more complicated that rowing a swan barge down the Avon.

We'd probably have to read the manuals...

Guess you're right but it seems to me that they are getting tired of being pushed aside, and besides that dependency goes both ways. Also there are other markets where they can sell their toys and led paint. On the other hand oil reserves are going scarce, and it's about time Chinese step up as a super power.

What does "pushed aside" mean in this context, please?

It means that no one asked them if a military intervention anywhere in the world was OK with them. Not saying you have to ask, but you shouldn't be suprised that they get pissed off if you overthrow a regime that US finds unsuitable and they don't.
UN and the Security Council have lost their credibility and US is pretty much acting at will. Not calling the Chinese or the Russians the righteous ones here, they pretty much want that same privilege for themselves.

Thanks. The Middle Kingdom has had arrogance issues for a few thousand years. I just wondered if this was something new. :bored:
