Should be a fucking laugh if Cuba finds decent reserves of oil democratic change anyone?
Darn straight we'll do anything to protect our oil supplies. Every nation's #1 priority is its own interests.

The US also turns something of a blind eye to Saudi Arabia, which is another government/society I find despicable. But what're we gonna do?
You can quit your job seeing as you are part of the state offense apparatus that perpetuates greed for oil and support for Saudi Arabia.

It was not I who invented the internal combustion engine.

Saudi Arabia was a despotic shithole long before any American ever set foot in it.

And long before it ever started exporting oil as well.
And even today, the US only gets 12% of its oil from Saudi Arabia. And of all SA's oil exports, only a fraction goes to the US. But in Gawd's logic, the US deserves to be blamed for anything ugly or repressive inside Saudi Arabia since Uncle Sam is responsible for upholding the Saudi monarchy, and I should quit my job. Because in Gawd's logic, the US is to directly or indirectly responsible for everything bad in the world. But Gawd's logic is has nothing to do with reality, just his own personal issues of anger and frustration. It's all about negativity and hate with him.

Ah, yes, the old American never take responsibility for anything it does excuse. Say, didn't Americkkka just sign a $20 billion weapons proliferation deal with Saudi Arabia? Just for that, American should be punished.

Keep in mind this image, and US foreign policy comes into sharp focus.

Given that we saved their asses, I don't understand why we don't just fucking own Kuwait.

From what I've been able to find, we left when they told us to leave, and we're staying out. Following orders.

Can you find anything that suggests we're sending the carrier back in?
You want to get me shot, don't you.
I'd be happy to buy you a shot. That's the extent of my violent predilections.

Seth wrote:Those jackasses didn't pay close enough attention to what we did to Saddam's military and what we will therefore do to Iran's military if they push this too far. Our carrier will go back to the Persian Gulf when it's damned good and ready to go, escorted by a full battle group (or two or three) and with all the backup it needs to vaporize Iraq's military capacity inside of 48 hours just like we did in Iraq. Meanwhile, our navy is puttering about while we collect intel on where to send the cruise missiles first, second, third, fourth and so on.

I kinda hope those stupid motherfuckers give us an excuse to send Ahmadinejad and his entire government directly to Allah, do not pass go, do not collect $200 rials.

This time, however, we need to use the Libyan model: Go in, bomb the fuck out of everything, turn it back into a stone-age shithole and then leave. No fucking nation-rebuilding for Iran, just death, destruction and horror rained down from above in full measure every time they rattle anything, until they learn not to stick their heads out of their holes without asking permission first.
Wow.

I can't say I "hope" (kinda or otherwise) that such things happen. More civilians died in Libya than combatants, and the intervention caused more death than the was posited would occur if we did not intervene. I wish the best for the Iranian people, and hope for that. Raining horror is not what I hope for.

Since when do countries have to be a threat in order for military action to be justified? Do you oppose all action by the US against nations that aren't a threat to the US? Or, just Iraq?

It's easy for people to sneer at "protecting oil supplies" and open commerce on the high seas when they are warm and snug, and can go to the store and buy almost whatever they please. Squeeze them a little bit, and let them listen to their children cry because it's a little chilly, or because the food choices are limited, and the tune will change.

Superpowers are bitched at when we do nothing to curtail despotic regimes who oppress their people, and then we're bitched at when we take an inteventionist stance and meddle in the affairs of other countires. So of course we tend to see most of the rest of the world as sniveling and bitchy.
Very true. And, the reason is quite simple. Saudi Arabia is relatively stable, and works with the rest of the world, not against it. Sure, the US would much prefer, as a matter of policy, that Saudi Arabia be a functioning republic with respect for human rights, but Iraq should show everyone what a difficult project that is.

Well, the regime in place now will have to go for that to happen. We will not ever be allies with a regime or system that invaded our soil (US Embassy in Tehran), kidnapped our citizens, and held them for ransom. We will one day get past it, but it won't be with Ahmadinejad or the Ayatollahs. That system will be gone.
