Iran Warns US to Stay Out of Persian Gulf, or Else.

Post by Coito ergo sum » Tue Jan 03, 2012 8:38 pm

Reuters reports White House officials said Iran's threat to take action if a U.S. aircraft carrier moves into the Gulf showed Tehran was increasingly isolated internationally, faced economic problems from to sanctions and wants to divert attention from its deepening problems.
"It reflects the fact that Iran is in a position of weakness," White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters Tuesday.
Earlier:
Iran will take action if a U.S. aircraft carrier which left the area because of Iranian naval exercises returns to the Gulf, the state news agency quoted army chief Ataollah Salehi as saying on Tuesday.

"Iran will not repeat its warning ... the enemy's carrier has been moved to the Sea of Oman because of our drill. I recommend and emphasize to the American carrier not to return to the Persian Gulf," Salehi told IRNA.
"I advise, recommend and warn them (the Americans) over the return of this carrier to the Persian Gulf because we are not in the habit of warning more than once," the semi-official Fars news agency quoted Salehi as saying.
Salehi did not name the aircraft carrier or give details of the action Iran might take if it returned. However, last week a spokeswoman for the U.S. 5th Fleet said the USS John C. Stennis had left the Gulf.

The Iranians who want to commit suicide should be at the Straits in orderly rows.

From what I've been able to find, we left when they told us to leave, and we're staying out. Following orders.

No reason was given for the delay, but, never short on opinion, Debka File chimed in with their take. Calling it a "media trick," Debka says Iran did exactly what it threatened to do earlier in the week, and effectively shut the Strait of Hormuz as "eas[ily] as drinking a glass of water."

While Iran said it was launching its missiles, Debka points out: "For five hours Saturday not a single warship, merchant vessel, or oil tanker ventured into the 30-mile wide Hormuz Strait, waiting to hear from Tehran that the test was over."

Can you find anything that suggests we're sending the carrier back in?

Those jackasses didn't pay close enough attention to what we did to Saddam's military and what we will therefore do to Iran's military if they push this too far. Our carrier will go back to the Persian Gulf when it's damned good and ready to go, escorted by a full battle group (or two or three) and with all the backup it needs to vaporize Iraq's military capacity inside of 48 hours just like we did in Iraq. Meanwhile, our navy is puttering about while we collect intel on where to send the cruise missiles first, second, third, fourth and so on.

I kinda hope those stupid motherfuckers give us an excuse to send Ahmadinejad and his entire government directly to Allah, do not pass go, do not collect $200 rials.

This time, however, we need to use the Libyan model: Go in, bomb the fuck out of everything, turn it back into a stone-age shithole and then leave. No fucking nation-rebuilding for Iran, just death, destruction and horror rained down from above in full measure every time they rattle anything, until they learn not to stick their heads out of their holes without asking permission first.

From what I've been able to find, we left when we were planning to leave.

That said, the Persian Gulf is not a friendly place for large ships. I'd expect aircraft carriers to spend as little time there as possible.

Pssh. The next carrier will go in any time it feels like it.
The 5th Fleet maintains at least a 1-carrier presence in the Gulfs (Persian and Gulf of Oman) at all times. It used to be a 2-carrier requirement due to Iraq, but those days are over.

Nice to see the military pissing money up the wall as seth would say his money to maintain the paymasters charade that iraq was a threat at any point in time and the war was anything other than an economic mission.

Darn straight we'll do anything to protect our oil supplies. Every nation's #1 priority is its own interests.

The US also turns something of a blind eye to Saudi Arabia, which is another government/society I find despicable. But what're we gonna do? Superpowers are bitched at when we do nothing to curtail despotic regimes who oppress their people, and then we're bitched at when we take an inteventionist stance and meddle in the affairs of other countires. So of course we tend to see most of the rest of the world as sniveling and bitchy.

But the Oil Era won't last forever. Personally, I see Iran as a future ally against powers on the Arabian peninsula. But that's a little ways down the road...

When you do both it is for your own self-interest the white house and co deep down couldn't give a flying fuck about democracy elsewhere in the world. Its about money and power and self THATS the beef tbh. Not to mention you have a fucking long history (i.e saudi arabia) of supporting not just turning a blind eye but supporting horrible regime i think it got its worst during the cold war but both sides were guilty of that.

I can't speak for everyone but personally i find at the very least your foreign policy short-sighted and self-absorbed now as the most powerful country on earth and darn proud of it that isn't bloody good enough.
