It helps some people be less scared.
It can be used for good works.
It often discourages violence.

Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

It gives a sense of togetherness
It is often used as an effective way out of substance abuse
The rituals can be very visually pleasing

The architecture (much or most). The music (some). The fact that it's going away (though way, way, way too slowly).

I think it actually can be used for good works too.
It offers hope or perhaps reassurance to those who are terrified of death.
It offers meaning to those who need it.

No, I can't. It's getting to be more and more of a fucking liability the world over. On the TV news tonight they were carrying the latest on those fucking nutters in Israel - those guys with the stupid hats and the black outfits. So, as well as all the usual stuff about women having to sit at the back of the bus and things like that, there was this bit about an 8-year-old girl who was now scared to go to school because when she's been walking to school with a tee-shirt and shorts on these fucking nutters have been berating her for having seductive clothing. As a father of daughters, I find them sinister to the point of psychopathy, and I'm not proud of the fact that I'd like to lock them all up together in a place where no-one ever goes and just leave them to rot there.

Three things: OK.

1. Hopefully it won't be too long until there's no religion.
2. Hopefully it won't be too long until there's no religion.
3. Hopefully it won't be too long until there's no religion.

But it can't come too soon.
Pray, do not mock me: I am a very foolish fond old man; And, to deal plainly, I fear I am not in my perfect mind.

Blah blah blah blah blah!

Memo to self: no Lir chocolates.

Life is glorious.

SRSLY? Man, wishing for religion to stop is like predicating apes disappear once some evolve to humanity.
Even if some people evolve out of the pest, the original species will continue to breed, and it's a lot more fertile than us.

back to OP
1) It can, (if seldom) bring out the best of people
2) It helps a community stay together
3) it provides a never ending source of fun for critical minds.

I've just noticed that "Svartalf" is very close to "Fatarse" backwards. :funny:

I believe we can reach the point where it's a mild curiosity, like Ouija Board clubs.
