I heard somewhere that all the Argies had to do to secure the islands was grab the airfield - I'm not sure how difficult/easy that would be.Clinton Huxley wrote:To be serious for one post - I think the forces stationed on the Islands are sufficient to defeat any threat Argentian could credibly mount.

Easier said than done. Their aircraft would only have a few minutes ove the Falklands and would likely be shot down. I don't think they have Paras or anything like that. I don't believe they have the capability to seize the main air-base.Horwood Beer-Master wrote:I heard somewhere that all the Argies had to do to secure the islands was grab the airfield - I'm not sure how difficult/easy that would be.Clinton Huxley wrote:To be serious for one post - I think the forces stationed on the Islands are sufficient to defeat any threat Argentian could credibly mount.

Re: Argentina kicking off again
In the 70s there were rumblings that Argentina was planning to invade. The Govt just said a hunter killer sub might or might not be in the S. Atlantic and that was the end of that.

Just an example of how easy/hard it can be capture an airfield. Crete is a classic case. And Hitler never let his boys jump again, AFAIK. Kevin? Well, Thatch could have handled it the same way, IMO, but probably quite fancied a shooting war....Svartalf wrote:Until 1982...

Re: Argentina kicking off again
Hmmm... We might have to beef-up the airfield defences. After all, we know the Argies have escaped ex-Nazis in their country - They might give them ideas!Gawdzilla wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_of_CreteHorwood Beer-Master wrote:I heard somewhere that all the Argies had to do to secure the islands was grab the airfield - I'm not sure how difficult/easy that would be.Clinton Huxley wrote:To be serious for one post - I think the forces stationed on the Islands are sufficient to defeat any threat Argentian could credibly mount.
In fact, don't both Cristina Kirchner and her husband have German ancestry?
