Edit: just finished typing the above and an advert for washing powder with 'quantum action' came on the telly! *sigh*
Excellent programme, as always with Coxy!

And to use that washing powder, Rum, there's an advert for a washing machine with "hydrothermic action"!

I made the mistake of posting that quote on my FB page, the following discussion became a bit epic

TV at its best, I loved it.
“I wish no harm to any human being, but I, as one man, am going to exercise my freedom of speech. No human being on the face of the earth, no government is going to take from me my right to speak, my right to protest against wrong, my right to do everything that is for the benefit of mankind. I am not here, then, as the accused; I am here as the accuser of capitalism dripping with blood from head to foot.”

John Maclean (Scottish socialist) speech from the Dock 1918.

It was good, but like all TV science it still left me thinking, 'I wish they'd gone into a bit more detail about... such-and-such'.

I suppose the next step is to actually learn physics.

I wish I could find 10 extra hours a day.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

I am reading a first year physics text book recreationally at the moment. none of the really cool stuff in it - but ALL of the groundwork to keep up with it!

I'll tell professor of theoretical and nuclear physics Jim Al-Khalili you said that!

I thought the show was excellent. Like others, there were some things I thought he could have covered but didn't. No explanation of the double-slit experiment is complete without describing what happens when you put an observer in the picture, because that's the most beautiful elucidation of just how bloody bizarre the quantum universe really is. He could have touched upon delayed choice, as well, although perhaps that's a bridge too far for the target audience.

Ultimately, it taught me a fair bit I didn't already know, not least the broader implications of the Pauli Exclusion Principle. I have a reasonable grasp of QM, so to learn some new stuff is always a bonus, especially when I thought the best I could expect is to pick up more analogies to employ in talking about it myself.

Excellent telly, and there should be more of it.
