I'm not sure if my mom still resents me for voting for Obama instead of Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Democratic primaries, but other than that we're all good.

Only person i would tangle with is my poppa a life-long liberal voter. :fp: But my dear mother is there to shut down any arguments.

One conversation with my mum.
Poppa: If labor get re-elected i'm blaming Adam
Mum: I think he voted for the greens.
*silence*

I did vote greens and labor did get back in. :funny:

Which is probably why she went unnoticed among a crowd of Christians.

My sister-in-law once ordered me to not discuss politics. In my own house. Once.

I try not to discuss politics or religion but when they bring it up, I can't help it, I have to jump in! :lay: They're extremely conservative republicans who thought Sarah Palin was a great idea and they love Glen Beck. :nono:

Although they usually pretend I'm not even talking and talk right over me. :sigh: :sulk:

She got "the look", and shut the fuck up. I then returned to telling my brother exactly what I thought of his "Obama's Recession!" remark. They left shortly thereafter. :relax:

Love it. I have a family with strong political opinions and they love nothing better than heated political discussions. problem is that as a nihilist who reads a lot of our newspapers, I'm well aware they don't have opinions of their own, they cherry pick them from the information still buffered in their short term memory and parrot them smugly. It really pisses them off when I recognise their words as others and then pester them as to why they would agree with that information, but not contradictory information.

Politicos are faithheads, pure and simple, and should be treated as such, with the same level of suspicion of their motivations.

I love talking politics with my brother.

Of course, he's actually rational about his politics, rather its being a religion based on hero worship to him.

My parents used to be pretty much like me politically - thought that most politicians were lying bastards, appreciated most those that held to the courage of their convictions even if their convictions were diametrically opposed to ones own and found things to applaud in most of the mainstream parties' ideas - just associated with too much ideological bollocks.

Then my dad was persuaded to run for local office and joined the Labour party - now they tend to toe the party line for the most part - which I find sad. Although I get the impression that they felt a little betrayed by Tony BlarE but just don't like to admit it - which is promising.

To be honest, i can talk politics with my parentals for hours without anything getting heated - one sniff of religion these days though and... :science:
