Fitba

Post by John_fi_Skye » Thu Dec 15, 2011 8:28 pm

I like football (or "saaacker", as I know it's called in the US, or fitba as we call it here in Scotland. Or "ball-coise" as it is in Gaelic.) I support a tiny wee club called Queen of the South, because like me they're from a wee toon called Dumfries. I like to see wee teams doing well against the overdogs - especially since these days there's a terrible smell of money about the big clubs.

Tonight on the telly I watched Shamrock Rovers, from Dublin, giving the mighty (and wealthy!) Tottenham Hotspur a pretty tough match. Amazing to see on the shirts the respective sponsors of the two clubs: Spurs are bankrolled by Investec - a worlwide investment banking and asset management organisation with an annual turnover approaching three thousand million pounds sterling; while Shamrock Rovers' players proudly wear the name of Woody's DIY!
Pray, do not mock me: I am a very foolish fond old man; And, to deal plainly, I fear I am not in my perfect mind.

Blah blah blah blah blah!

Memo to self: no Lir chocolates.

Life is glorious.

John, I hope you don't mind if this is moved to the Sports subforum?

Carry on. I didn't realise there was such an animal. And I'd have assumed that if I put something in the wrong place, it would just be moved! It never occurred to me that my permission would be sought! How very kind!

(Tell that guy who insults the speed of my typing, will you? I'm quite old, and I think a lot between keystrokes.)

When members, who have been here for a while and know the routines, make such mistakes, that is usually the case. However, I figured it can't hurt to be a bit more communicative with someone who is fairly new.

If in the future you miss a thread that you remember being in some certain subforum, do take a look in Change Control, all merges and moves should be documented there http://rationalia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=31619

Link, please?

On topic: I found the contrast between Investec and Woody's DIY both moving and funny. I'm no football/socker fan, but I do wish Shamrock Rovers well.

Thanks, Ronja. I was being facetious about the guy who insults me, I think. I think it's an automatic message that pops up when I take a long time, and it tells me I'm terribly slow.

Unless it really is a rude guy.....

. Yup, it's automatic, and the message wording has AFAIK been set by Pappa (or possibly DP = Don't Panic or XC = Xamonas Chegwé, they do stuff in that style, too). I get that message a lot - thinking is not-so-subtly penalized here, but I carry on regardless...

. :paddle: We do not have a FUA. We have "New Forum Rules and Guidelines" or "rules" / "guidelines" for short.

WHEN are you going to learn? :nono:

a) I'm only marginally American these days.
b) I wasn't thinking when I posted that, so I should still be in the clear.
c) There is no c like that of a JimC.
