Using the same format of tenuous linkage I'm going to say off the top off my head... Armageddon. A buch of oil drillers go into space to drill into an oncoming meteor to plant a nuclear bomb within and blow it up saving the day.
Go America!

Libertarianism: The belief that out of all the terrible things governments can do, helping people is the absolute worst.
Re: The Muppets...Communist Propaganda
How about Star Wars? Nobody much talks about what sort of leftist peacenik collectivism the rebels had in mind once they violently seized power. The movies end before we can see their dictatorship-of-the-proletariat style government. People only seem to care that the Empire was defeated. It's sinister propaganda, I tell you.

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I always saw the Rebels like Al Qaeda. Religious terrorists blowing up things and killing people who don't use the force the way their charismatic cult leader demanded it be used.Ian wrote:How about Star Wars? Damn, they're so fucking irritating. How can anyone watch Fox? They get a guest on who they disagree with, and without even an attempt to be impartial, they get into a tag-teem to talk over her and prevent her even answering the questions, - it's like they think talking louder makes them right.Animavore wrote:

When they were "discussing" propaganda movies, surprised this wasn't mentioned. Perhaps it was a little to blatant to be propaganda?
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

Re: The Muppets...Communist Propaganda
Please, Ian, we all know that the "rebels" were no better than the Empire. They were just fighting to preserve or reinstate the old "Republic" which, as we all know, a republic is just a smokescreen and window dressing. People never have any "freedumb" - it's all a big sham. The rebels were just fighting for tyranny of the Senate, ruled by a shadowy theocracy of warrior monks.Ian wrote:How about Star Wars? Seriously. Nobody gave any warning to all the construction workers on the Death Star trying to put that thing together. On minute there's a guy welding another piece of metal onto the Star, and then next he's vaporized. Hand that Luke Skywalker a medal!Audley Strange wrote:I always saw the Rebels like Al Qaeda. How about the way the Rebels capitalized on an indigenous people's mythology to control them and make them fight at the Rebels' bidding?
Colonizing like Cortes, there, C3Po. Admirable.

Well, it seems to me that anything involving Angelina Jolie is hot, especially the Angelina of 10 years ago.... brother kissing or no brother kissing....hadespussercats wrote:

It's actually worse than that. The whole point of the "rebellion" was to put...Republicans in power. We got the whole freaking galaxy away from them and they get it back in only twenty-ish years.Ian wrote:How about Star Wars?
