Re: Another Virginia Tech Shooting
Cops opening fire at random again?
Re: Another Virginia Tech Shooting
Once again an armed killer is loose in a "gun free zone." How is that possible? After all, Virginia Tech has a rule against carrying guns on campus. How on earth was this person able to bring a gun onto campus and kill two people?
It's a puzzlement, isn't it?

Apparently the 2nd fatality was the shooter.
Re: Another Virginia Tech Shooting
I don't think this comes down either way for the gun anti-gun thing. He was armed in a no-gun zone, but he killed a cop, who was himself armed.
Nobody expects me...

You mean the idiotic notion that gun bans keep guns out of the hands of deranged criminals? You are aware that the shooter broke a large number of laws by possessing and using a firearm to kill other people, right?Clinton Huxley wrote:Cue deranged gun nuts missing the entirely bleeding obvious...
It should be "entirely bleeding obvious" that all those laws, including the ones that forbade everyone else on that campus from lawfully carrying a gun for self-protection, did absolutely nothing to prevent the shootings.
Need I point out Dunblane, Scotland (among others) again as an obvious failure of UK anti-gun laws to prevent a deranged person from shooting people?

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Re: Another Virginia Tech Shooting
And what is the violent crime rate in the UK, as compared to the US? Not just the gun-crime rate, but the overall violent crime rate. It's safer everywhere in the US except perhaps Washington DC (where there is an almost total gun ban) than it is in the major cities of the UK, particularly places like London and Glasgow.Azathoth wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_sho ... _-_PresentSeth wrote:Once again an armed killer is loose in a "gun free zone." Re: Another Virginia Tech Shooting
Crime in DC has plummeted over the last ten years. Talk about Detroit instead.
Re: Another Virginia Tech Shooting
I did. What's your point? My point is that it clearly comes down in favor of law-abiding citizens being armed against the predation of gun-toting criminals who will kill cops, and anybody else who gets in their way.andrewclunn wrote:Reread the bolded parts.Seth wrote:Which is merely bad luck or bad tactics on the part of the police officer and militates against everyone else being armed for self defense how, exactly?andrewclunn wrote:I don't think this comes down either way for the gun anti-gun thing. Re: Another Virginia Tech Shooting
If even the thought of self defence enters your mind in peace time then there is either something seriously wrong with your society or something wrong with you.
When only criminals carry guns the police know exactly who to shoot!
