Euro 2012 finals draw

Post by klr » Fri Dec 02, 2011 6:25 pm

Group A: Poland, Greece, Russia, Czech Republic

Group B: Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Portugal

Group C: Spain, Italy, Republic of Ireland, Croatia

Group D: Ukraine, Sweden, France, England

No surprise that the two "easiest" groups have the co-hosts Poland & Ukraine, who were automatically first seeds in the draw. Ireland's group is very difficult. The Netherlands group is even tougher - the proverbial "group of death".

England better watch out for those cheating Frenchies :P

England don't need their opponents to cheat. They're perfectly capable of screwing things up all by themselves, especially in an "easier" group. :tut:

The finals match schedule is here BTW:

Ireland's group is based in Poland, with relatively little travelling between Poznan and Gdansk. England are based in the Ukraine, as are Germans. The Germans can ask their grandfathers the best way to get to Kharkov and Lvov. [/don't mention the war]

I hope England get dumped out of the competition as soon as possible. A squad of oafish, over priveleged, thick as shit borderline rapists ( as Bill Bailey describes em). Why should I support the scum?

I'll be rooting for the Netherlands, they seem to have figured out football is much more exciting as a roller-ball style bloodsport if the 2010 final was anything to go by; and I know the mere mention of this will sent the dam-busters theme flooding into some of your memories as you are blinded by the light of Churchill super-imposed on a waving Union Flag and enraptured by the spirit of '66, but I quite fancy Germany's chances, the machine needs tinkered with, but their games have generally been impressive.

... and there's no truth in the rumour that the group containing Ireland, Italy and Spain will be referred to as the "Group of Debt".

Last time Ireland played on the world stage I was visiting my in-laws. I watched the game in a pub in Castlebar, brilliant time and great company. I know which team I will be supporting.

Yes, my dear wife has a gun to my head and she made me post this crap.
“I wish no harm to any human being, but I, as one man, am going to exercise my freedom of speech. No human being on the face of the earth, no government is going to take from me my right to speak, my right to protest against wrong, my right to do everything that is for the benefit of mankind. I am not here, then, as the accused; I am here as the accuser of capitalism dripping with blood from head to foot.”

John Maclean (Scottish socialist) speech from the Dock 1918.

I recently saw a good advert on a Barr's van: it read, "I had an Irn Bru in '66, but I don't go on about it!"

(If you're not Scottish, you may not understand.)
Pray, do not mock me: I am a very foolish fond old man; And, to deal plainly, I fear I am not in my perfect mind.

Blah blah blah blah blah!
