'Clarksons Law' needs to be combined with the pyschopath thread? The guy is fucking gone AWOL and he ain't coming back- imagine how dangerous he'd be if there was real trouble brewing? :smoke:

It's just too forced - but at least not the US version!!
The scripting is a bit too obvious for me. Perhaps that's a fundamental flaw of the show that can't be changed, but the premise might have worked if they'd just did what came naturally rather than contrive situations.

Clarkson was a friend of a friend (when we lived in the Cotswolds where he also lives). He is a dick of course, but much of it is a persona. I am told that in real life he is quite a different character - much less laddish, far less bloke in the pub and right wing, and actually pretty sensitive.

Having said that the union guy hasn't made many friends threatening legal action. Poe faced strikers taking themselves too seriously as they inconvenience the public? Not the average Brit's favourite persons!

I bet. Sounds pretty chickenshit.

Not sure of the technical definition of 'chickenshit' but there isn't much sympathy for the public sector strikes here - from those not within it anyhow.

Certainly not from me, who suffered the ultimate sacrifice of losing my job through redundancy during the first round of cuts. Makes one less sympathetic to those who one feels should be grateful not to have been in that position.

Interesting how when it gets personal one's viewss crystalize.

One does note that it is somewhat the case of why the dog licks his balls.

To be fair one also notes that it's harder to spare ten percent if you're spending everything you earn than if you save twenty percent.

Fully agree with Clarkson here.

Torres, Ronaldo... the lot of 'em.

Sorry to hear that Rum. I was on strike! Hardly any of my fellow workers at the County Court did though. I think Clarksons comments previous to that make it clear it was meant to be a joke about "balance" on the BBC.

Yesterday I saw an interview with a striking head teacher on the BBC, he apologised to parents affected and explained that he didn't feel he had any choice, then the reporter pressed him hard on further strike action and when he didn't take the bait, she signed off with "Mr So & so, not ruling out further strike action"!

More Clarkson:

Priests...dread the advance of science as witches do the approach of daylight and scowl on the fatal harbinger announcing the subversions of the duperies on which they live.

Saw the longer clip on the news today - his prior comment was that he was all in favour of the strikes (sarcastically)...........the joke was that as it was the BBC he had to provide a balanced view - hence the Kill 'em comment (I thought the in front of family a bit OTT and took away from the joke).

lol so again the vast majority of the "outrage" comes from people who even didn't see it in the original context.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]
