That's more-or-less it. I wouldn't want to over-emphasise the 'rural' part though. Although rural seats tend to vote Tory, the city-country divide culturally, politically and socially is rather more blurred in the UK than it seems to be in America - no doubt due in part to Britain being a much more crowded place (basically, in the county you're never very far from a town, in a town you're never very far from the county, and in many places it's fairly subjective whether you'd call where you are more urban or rural).

But yes, the Tories have done a pretty thorough con-job on the lower-middle classes, especially in the South-East.

Yeah, "rural" here can mean the closest town is a couple hours' drive away. Never happen there.

What sort of stupid cunt builds a coastal town below sea level? Anyhoo, it's too late.

Reaping the rewards of shitty planning decisions. If they hadn't taken so many backhanders from developers to build in such stupid places there would be much less of a problem
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

   $str = str_replace(array("\{","\}")," ",$str);

I doubt very much the existence of Hythe where it is has damn-all to do with "planning decisions" as we know them today.
Hythe is a very old place that I'm sure, like many old places in the UK, grew-up largely organically. I'm not sure if the first people to live there would have had any conception that they were below sea level - if they indeed even were at the time.

There would be a lot more money for defences on places like Wythe if there weren't so many Wimpy and barratt developments festering on floodplains

I was so looking forward to Hovind's vindication of his Diluvian model. What's the hold up?

No.

FWIW I haven't built my house on a flood plain..........and I have to pay for someone that dumb???...........if all those affected chipped in £50k each (IOU's secured on the property) would have more than enough to get the defences. Instead want to take the money off the hard working unemployed............

I recommend places like Skye. The mountains we have tend to be quite high above sea level, and islands generally have quite a lot of experience of staying up above the water.

Bleh, If I were to live in the hebrides, I'd choose Lewis or harris, or maybe Islay, the whisky being better.
