This kind of brutality is shameful!

They're just kids. :( :( :( :(

So much for freedom and liberty.

Totally unnecessary escalation of a peaceful demonstration. Arsehole. :(

The use of pepper spray in that context is definitely over the top...

But I suppose that ultimately, campus authorities have a right to decide that a tent city is not on in the quad...

Mind you, I can talk. In 1971, Melbourne Uni authorities had done something to piss us off, can't remember what...

Several hundred of us made a mortared brick wall blocking the main entrance to the admin building! I wasn't bad at mortaring the bricks, either! :hehe:

My posts were posted as I watched it unfold ...

In the end, aside from the pepper spray which was abhorrent, I'm left with mixed feelings about the action of the police, who seemed to be retreating in the end?

If it ended on the note that footage did, I'm glad it didn't get worse than what it was.

from the article:
UPDATE: Two UC Davis police officers involved in the incidents have reportedly been placed on administrative leave.
You know it's a movement that's upsetting the establishment when gross violations of the first amendment are in plain view. But I commend those that are out there doing this. They are true patriots who are risking safety, security, and comfort for the rights of the working class.

Guess they should have gotten up off the sidewalk when told to do so.

I heard they used the pepper spray because the students were obstructing their ability to leave, and that they were surrounded by a hostile crowd at the time.

I note that all the people standing to the side, on the grass, weren't sprayed. Perhaps that's because they obeyed instructions not to obstruct a sidewalk or passageway. There's a clue there for the idiots who got what they deserved. When one crosses the line from peaceful and law-abiding gathering to petition for redress of grievances into unlawful actions, one chances tear gas and pepper spray.

Scary floor sitters. There is no way the pigs could have walked around them. Admit it they were just being cunts

It must have seemed important at the time... :shifty:

But shit, our Uni admin guys would have swapped us for the Davis mob anytime, if all they were doing was a little occupation. Would have kept 'em supplied with coffee and biscuits too, if they got rid of us in exchange! :hehe:

It's amazing how easily libertarians switch to authoritarianism at the drop of a hat when it suits them.
No, wait - don't tell me. The campus is private property so they can do as they please, right?

Remember folks - it only counts as oppression if the state's doing it!

Two points. Firstly, even if you dispute the right of those students to obstruct a sidewalk, pepper spray is still surely a massive overkill response, and secondly if they surrounding crowd were really genuinely 'hostile' (and I stress if), why were they not pepper-sprayed instead, given that that would have actually been an incontrovertibly legitimate use of the stuff?

And bullets? Where would you draw the line exactly? Summery execution on the spot for the slightest transgression of the law in the presence of a cop who's formally warned you?
