And fresh pineapple, hand-sculpted by the most skilled Japanese radish-carving masters.
Just don't overdo the peppers. Tuna's delicate.

Since its founding in 1946, the National School Lunch Program has been the target of critics from the right as well as from the left. It is clear that even after more than half a century of operation, the National School Lunch Program is deeply flawed. School meals are often unattractive, unappetizing, and not entirely nutritious. The menu has always depended more heavily on surplus commodities than on children’s nutrition needs.

Oh, I think we're talking at cross-purposes then. I agree with this re- what ends up on the menu. I meant that this reclassification of foods happens for financial reasons, to work around the basic legal requirements of child nutrition.

You don't make pizzas. You might make cheesy flatbreads, but you put the wrong things on them to call them pizzas.

Oh, that's clearer. OK, but I'll still point out that those aren't the only financial reasons; farm subsidies are another. I don't think we fundamentally disagree, though.

ETA: Other than the pineapple thing.

By that standard, does it mean that Bloody Marys also count as a veggie? At least they can have a stick of celery in them...
