Cap child tax credit after four children, says MP

A Conservative MP has suggested that caps should be put on benefits paid for children in workless households.

In an article for ConservativeHome, backbench MP Harriett Baldwin proposed that unemployed families get child tax credits for no more than four children.

She acknowledged it was a controversial idea but said the issue of children growing up in workless households was "extremely serious".

But Lib Dem MP Jenny Willott said the idea could end up penalising children.

The government already plans to put an overall £26,000-a-year cap on the amount of benefits a family can get - equivalent to £500 per week per family - from 2013, with some exemptions.

Yeah, not giving people money for popping out sprogs when they can't afford to feed the ones they already have is the same as killing them. FACT.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I'm not concerned with how many are being born, that is in decline anyway. It is how many who are holding unfairly onto life at the other end that bothers me. :crumple:

Who has the most children? The poor and uneducated! Who are the most religious? The poor and uneducated! Who commits most of the violent crime? The poor and uneducated! Who do these enlightened socialist dimwits want society to subsidize the reproduction of? The poor and uneducated! Well maybe some people don't think they should have to pay so that you can keep pumping out more voters and call it 'compassion.' Maybe they realize that evolution means survival of the fittest and that if you keep making everyone else pay for the ignorant and the incompetent, then you'll end up with Jesus' prediction of "the meek inheriting the Earth." And it will be a shitty fucking Earth if you listen to that mental case ass sucker Jesus.

There are very few reasons to believe the poor will stay poor rather than drift away and do other things given the opportunity. Evolution doesn't have a moral purpose. Some families are large and some are small. The idea that you should introduce a clipping incentive is flawed for a number of reasons. There is obviously more existential resiliance in having a larger family and losing the genes /memes that code for large family size could become a serious issue if a high mortality virus broke out and left a much smaller population overall.

I'm basically in favour of this - the benefits limitation that is, not the child disposal.
