The problem with the planet...

Post by Tero » Fri Nov 11, 2011 4:43 pm

With our planet. There really is almost no problem. Just one troulesome species with huge needs. One who evolved to live in temperate climates but left them.

But it will take care of itself sooner or later. But long after I'm on oatmeal and laxatives.

I know how you feel, I hate spiders and snakes too.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

I know it sounds like a lot, but with human ingenuity we can make a better planet with them extinct.
Oh, and let's add mosquitoes to the list too.

Sadly our success is probably also our downfall.

Maybe it happens all over the universe this way. One dominant life-form ends up spoiling its nest big time.

Maybe that's one reason we haven't heard from any of them...

Wonder how long marks from us can be found, after we are gone? Metal and concrete will crumble in a million years.

It's interesting to read about the planning issues that the Yucca Mountain* nuclear waste facility designers considered. One was; How do we warn future inhabitants about the buried hazard? They came up with a Rosetta Stone type marker that would be distributed over the surface of the facility at regular intervals that said, in effect; Don't dig here for a few million years. The message had to be legible a million years from now.

* Yes, I know Yucca is now cancelled.

It's like we're dung beetles, rolling the biggest ball of shit ever. Or turning our world into a big ball of shit. I don't know exactly where I'm going with this analogy. But just saying "dung beetle" amuses me...
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

But for how long? What's that hypothesis that goes we will generate so much information eventually that it will ultimately be the information that will program the next Big Bang at the end of the current life cycle..and maybe that's how we started too....

I don't believe in the singularity, or the hypothesis that this is all just some simulation. What you see is what you get. The universe is temporary and so are we. Make of it what you will.
