57. The Notorious Bettie Page - Biopic about the glamour/bondage pin-up queen which mainly covers the period in the mid 50s when she was at the peak of her popularity and finishes with her dedicating her life to Teh Lawd. The flashbacks to her childhood are brief and sketchy and there is nothing at all about her life after 1959. Watchable though, and Gretchen Mol captures her expressions and mannerisms perfectly.

Red State. Kevin Smith's suspense/horror film. Not great, but not bad either. Interesting change of pace for Smith. Particularly good performance from the fellow who portrays the nutty pastor of a West Borough Baptist type religious cult. After listening to his sermon, the awful stuff he and his followers do almost seemed reasonable!

80.
When a movie begins with Statham accosting three youths trying to break into his car and he cripples the first guy with a sports bat to the knee before casually explaining to the other two, "This, lads, is a hurley, used in the Irish game of hurling, Cross between hockey and murder." Then proceeding to show them the business end leaves them with, "A word of advice, girls. 'f you're pickin' the wrong fight, at least pick the right weapon." And all before the opening credits you know you're in for classic Statham fare.
If you like that sort of thing, and I do, you won't be disappointed. If the idea of Statham sauntering around leaving testosterone trails every where makes you cringe then you should probably scuttle away from this like an omega male.
What's it about? Some bad tempered, London cop pissed off 'cause some weasel is killing his little cop buddies, could you give a shit?
