The fiscal collapse will bankrupt the cell phone companies. This means people will no longer be divorced from the reality of where their feet are placed and who is walking past them. This in itself will lead to a rapid escalation in street crime as poverty levels soar. Violence and fear of violence will run rampant across the industrialised world.

The survivors will begin to resemble zombies. Once the food is low in the larger more isolated cities, with no access to anything else, cannibalism will begin to break out. At the end of the Roman era there are signs that as the leviathan of the Roman army withdrew people began to transport soil into the cities and towns left behind. Presumably bandits made agriculture all but impossible outside the city walls - something to bear in mind.
